I finally found some small pistol primers today. WE stopped at a shop 60 miles from home and they had 2 bricks of Federal small pistol. Yes, the prices were inflated, as usual, but at least I'm back to reloading for some of my toys. I still can't understand this mess after every election. It seems to be quite a bit like the gas price fixing, that has gone on forever. In a couple months there will be primers every where, but five bucks higher than last year. It couldn't be corparate greed could it? NAAAW, not a chance!
 
It isn't corporate greed at all. It is folks panicking that there might not be any so they clean out everything creating the high prices and shortages they then come online and whine about.

As to gas price fixing, please, get real and do yourself a favor and take a class in economics. The gas companies o not set the price, the folks who OWN the oil, OPEC, sets the major price that Exxon et al pays
 
Where were you four years ago? We went through the same thing.

I have already seen several threads where people said "I stopped by so-and-so's and they only had five boxes of ammo, so I took them all".

Ten (or a hundred) people read that thread and a number of them say "Oh no! The sky is falling!" And then run out to buy any that might still be available....

That is the mindset that drives shortages.
 
Any guesstimates as to when Small Pistol Primers will be back in stock online?

We have a store here in Houston who has a small quantity of primers, and they're selling them for-- get ready-- their usual price. Kudos to The 10 Ring on Jones Road!!
 
My local Walmart back home in WV had primers for $32/1000 (and they had large pistol, small pistol, large rifle, and small rifle all in stock). That's about as good a price I've seen offline.
 
If Wal Marts around here actually carried reloading supplies I might go into one more than once every 3 months. A lot of gun shops around here don't even carry very much in the way of reloading supplies. Most of them will order stuff in but prices can vary a good bit, even before the panic. I'm almost afraid to walk into one to check out prices now.
 
I started reloading and shooting only 2 years ago.
When I started I paid $37.00 for my first 1,000 Federal large pistol primers.
Last summer I bought 5,000 CCI small pistol primers for $135.00 which were priced at $28.95/1,000.
The day before New Years I bought 5,000 S&B small pistol primers for $130.00/5,000 which were regularly 29.99/1000.

I hope you guys south of the border get out from under the threat of this new round of legislation,

Great folks there. I was just there Saturday to get some powder and large pistol primers.

Slightly more than usual, but they are honest, and send emails to everyone on their list of pending increases.
 
Primer shortage ? Try to find an AR ? you think rumors got started that fast and furious was starting up again !
The reloading shops around the Nashville area have mostly raised their prices, supply and demand. Powder valley is +1. !!

And a lot of prices will be raised by retailers because their wholesale price is going up - they will have to raise the prices to cover buying new inventory - that's just the way retail works

Then plz explain why Exxon, Shell, BP etc are all reporting record profits?

Yes OPEC is guilty, but the oil/gas companies are just as guilty if not more so.
 
Jes wonnerin'; how many primers do those of you that comdemn those looking to purchase/stock up on primers have on hand? ("panicing... come online and whine..."). I'll bet tens of thousands and prolly a hundred pounds or more of various powders (or more).

I stocked up because I believe the present regime wants to take guns away from the masses and one tactic is attacking ammunition (and reloading supplies). With little fanfare, the State of California banned lead ammo from nearly 1/3 of the state; very easy "ammunition control", and they could very easily ban primers with lead compounds as well (there are already several cities in CA with ammunition regulations; L.A. gushops can't sell ammo on New Years Eve, nor 4th of July, and ID and a signature are required to purchase handgun ammo). The president :)barf:) has made no secret that he is for stricter gun control and his Supreme Court judges are anti-gun (which will aid him in any court battles against new gun legislation). So, to be able to continue to practice my hobby, I purchased more than I normally would...
 
I looked for a week and finally was in the LGS when they were restocking. Grabbed 1000, and they were all still the same price. One of the guys at the store told me that it was the same couple of guys buying them out when they came in. It was all of the small pistol. I was finding everything else. Not sure why just SP's here but finally got a box.
 
saw the writing on the wall about three months ago and started picking up 1k boxes of cci whenever they were in stock at the local wally world....even then, it was a hit or miss kind of affair, and I consider myself lucky to have stockpiled the 5k spp's that I did... I'm sure wally world will still restock them but they will be gone within hours of each restocking for the next few months...right now the only primers they have are shotgun primers.
 
I have 1000 primers and one pound of powder right now. I'm trying to not join the chaos and buy a bunch of stuff that I wont use.

I must have missed something somewhere? I've only been reloading for 40 years. Way too young to remember the last election, or to understand economics. No book in the world, would make me believe that our oil companies, do not play the largest part in our gas prices. I agree that we as consumers play a part also, by not standing together. Big producers know, we will follow like lambs to slaughter. When this primer and gun scare goes away this spring, prices of primers will be about five bucks more per thousand than before the scare. AR-15's listing now for nearly $2000.00. Wow, if we keep paying these prices, then I guess we deserve to be called "Gun Nuts."

LOL. I get what you're saying but when I read this I thought...

"Man. Thats like saying you would rather buy a 4 pack of toilet paper instead of the 12 pack family size....cuz you might not use it all LMAO"

You gonna quit shooting after that brick of primers?

What I mean, is that it will take me a while to reload 1,000 rounds, and another good while to shoot those 1,000 rounds. I needed one brick, so I bought one brick.

I'm not gonna be one of those guys that buys every damn box of primers just to have them. I needed 1,000 to last me a long time. If I needed more, I would have bought more.

I'll let the next guy get some. If everyone did this, then most of us would still be able to get stuff.
 
Local reloading dealer is holding his price at $30 a brick(S&B), but is limiting customers to 1 brick a week. Had plenty of SP the Sat. before Xmas.
 
If you can get primers now at regular price, what's the point of procrastinating and paying inflated prices later?
