Smith 442 Performance Center

I like them a lot. Can get your hand moved up as high as you like with no hammer concerns or shoot from a pocket if you had to (good Cold War spy stuff there :) . For a while they were silly cheap from S&W (not sure about now). I think the Pro is mostly a moon clip gain which you have to decide if that matters to you or not. I was not impressed with the trigger in my Pro but that is easy enough to improve upon.

Big J-frame fan, hard to go wrong with them in my opinion.

I have a 642 Performance Center (same as the 442 except with a matte silver finish), and the trigger action is definitely smoother operating and feels lighter to me than any standard 442/642s I have personally handled. The slightly longer rosewood grip is an improvement too. Overall very much worth the relatively small premium in my book. My best bud had never been able to shoot a snubby accurately in DA, and the first time he fired mine he hit 5/5 10 inch plates at at 10-12 yards. In fact he ordered one of his own later that very same day and it's his been his EDC ever since.

Thanks for the replies so far. I just picked one up.

Only thing I can see I might change is the grips. It has the standard length black grips on it and I think I would prefer the ones that are a little longer to catch my last finger. They had a lady Smith in the case with the longer length grip, but were laminate.

Any recommendations for a little longer length grip?

I like wooden "banana" grips for something larger. Ordered a set for a round-butt j-frame just yesterday. Robertson's Trading Post (I think that's the name) has them on GB.

Got this Model 34 for my wife but she didn't like the small size factory wood grips so I bought a Hogue MonoGrip for her. Made the gun feel much more comfortable to shoot with the longer grip and the finger grooves.

I have what was sold under the title of the 442 Moonclip. I believe this is the Performance Center version of the 442. Its been a good little J-frame. As most of you know I am a big fan of moonclip fed revolvers. It also did not have the internal lock so that was bonus points. It not my favorite revolver to shot being so small and short but it has held up well and done what I need it to do.

And yes those are the ugliest grips you have ever seen on a revolver, but they are oh so comfortable and take all the sting out of even the snappiest +P ammo.

I have a regular 442-1 and I've dry-fired it a lot to smooth up the trigger.
It really helps to get good accuracy from the little thing when the action stages so firmly.
Do the PC guns do this from the factory?

I compared mine to a non PC gun today. Mine is a lot smoother and the trigger was not near as heavy.
