Smith and Wesson 686-4. Whats it worth?

I found a 686-4 with a 4in barrel, stainless. Has a fiber optic front sight, and has been sent to S&W for a trigger job. Hammer has been bobbed. Extremely smooth trigger, one of the nicest triggers I've felt on a revolver. I would say its in 95%+ condition. Whats it worth?

I'm not up on 686 dash numbers but from what you described if it doesn't have a hole above the cylinder release latch, $600 max, maybe $650 for a 686+. If it has a hole, who knows.

Whats a ppc gun? A PC gun? as in performance center, it was sent in to the performance center for the trigger work, was gonna be a competition gun but was never used in competition.

The -4 guns have no lock or MIM parts. The firing pin is hammer mounted.

It's not a PPC gun. Sounds like it was built for IDPA (SSR) or ICORE (Classic). Is the seller including any accessories? I'd say $550 - $600 for the gun itself is reasonable. If you can get the seller to include some accessories (Kydex holster, speedloaders & holders), $550 - $600 would be a screamin' deal.

Many 'smiths do a lot nicer work than S&W. Unfortunately, some 'smiths can do a lot worse, too. Still, S&W is a known entity, and it's likely the job was done reasonably well.

Any idea how light the action is? On one end of the spectrum, it'll still shoot factory ammo reliably. On the other end, it's only capable of shooting hand loads with hand-seated Federal primers. Depending on your intended usage, you may have to spend a few (not many) bucks to de-tune it. It's worth asking, just so you know what you're getting.

If S&W did the work on the revolver and it is is nice condition, I think the price is fair.

I'm one of those who considers the 686-4 to be the last of the desireable 686's.

Locally the MIM/lock 686's bring $600 +. I'd say your 686-4 is worth more than those revolvers. The last 686-4 I saw locally brought $650 at the LGS. Great revolvers!

Around here MIM and ILs are a non-issue and NEW 686s with a lifetime warranty only costs $650. While a bobbed hammer may be desirable to some on a 686, for most it's a "huh"? $500 around here would be a legitimate asking price.
