Going into a country diner a few months ago I noticed this on the cork board outside the door.

Couldn't wait to get back on the road so I had a cell signal. I didn't even bother with my usual haggling, even without a box.

The local Outfitters Supply always call me when they buy or trade for a vintage S&W. Last year they called. The manager had just bought an as new S&W 27-2 8 3/8s blue. The price $350 bucks. That was my lucky day.

Enjoy it for many, many years. Mine is also a Model 27-2 in 6" with the wide target trigger. One of the guns I really enjoy shooting quite a bit.

Have you ever carried it in a shoulder holster? If you have how it does it work out for you ? I normally carry with a shoulder holster from Bianchi but never one with this long of a barrel.

Nope, never had a large revolver in a shoulder holster. Love the Model 27 6" but for me it would be a bit gangling in a shoulder holster.

A five inch 27 was Skeeter Skelton's ideal handgun and I can't help but agree. I'm stuck with 2 3/4, 4, and 6 inch guns for now except for my fave, a 625 5" which could be #1.

I didn't realize the OP scored a 5" 27-2, even more outstanding.

Here's a couple pictures of mine, which I believe to be unfired, for now. I paid dearly for this gun and have no regrets.

I'm a fan of the 5" M27-2. I bought this one new way back when it had a 6" tube. A couple years later I sent it back to S&W to have the 5" installed; still have the original 6" barrel.

I've got a 3" Model 65 for $235 . . . but that was in 1990. The good thing is this, with the prices of the S&W vintage revolvers only going up, up, UP it is correctly said you didn't pay too much for it sometimes, you just bought it a year early!

I've had two 27-2s, a later 6" w/patridge, and my current one . . . a 1971-made 27-2 with the narrower trigger and correct magna stocks that were on the earlier 27-2s with 3 1/2" tubes. This one was a grail gun!

The S&W 357 Magnum (later Mod 27) in it's dash two incarnation is a very fine revolver that is uniformly accurate, reliable and finely finished. In my mind, the five inch version is the optimum length being a good compromise between short barrel carry and long barrel for field use. While I really like my 3.5" for carry (yep, it is possible to conceal a 357/M27) the 5" is still my fav N frame 357.

This 357 Mag was made in the early 1950s after S&W restarted magnum production following it being discontinued for WWII. The front sight had been moved all the way forward on the barrel but the front sight was still pinned to the barrel.

They make mediocre marksman like me look good...
