Back in the eighties I owned a model 19 square butt and never could learn to love it. Now I've been searching for a round butt K Frame without much luck. A local dealer has a Mod. 66 RB, 21/2 inch in super shape for 265.00 I'll probably shoot .38's or milder .357 handloads through it. It will be a belt gun. What are your opinions? The only downside that pops to mind is that holster foe a 2 1 /2 may be harder to come by.........Essex

What dash is the 66? Does it have an internal lock?

If it's a pinned and recessed, then get back to the store and beat away the competition with a baseball bat. That's your gun!

If not a P&R, but doesn't have an internal lock, then just get back to the store and beat away the competition with your fists. That's your gun!

As far as holsters, check out Bianchi's black widow.

BTW, for anything other than an internal lock, that's a killer price.

(I just don't happen to like ILs for SD weapons.)

As far as holsters go, there will be no problem finding one for it. The 2 1/2 inch 66 or 19 were the top police revolvers for detectives and off duty carry.
Practically everyone who makes holsters make a model for it. I have a 2 1/2 inch 66 and two Bianchi holsters for it. They are the Shadow (pancake style) and their model 5BH. My wife liked it so much she adopted it for her gun and I had to find another. It gave me a reason to find a replacement. The replacement was a 3 inch 65. It is very diffucult to find a dedicated holster for the 3 inch. I did find one from Desantis. You can't go wrong with the 66.

I love my 2&1/2" M66 (No Dash). The Uncle Mikes Size 0 pancake holster in Nytek (a fancy pleather) is a great inexpensive rig too. You can't go wrong with a nice M66 at that price.

Bought it this morning. SN BKC1475. No endshake. Since it's a N.H. to Vt. dealer I won't be able to pick it until Thursday....Any Idea when it was made? Any info would be appreciated............Thanks, Essex

From The Standard Catalog Of Smith & Wesson 2nd edition
looks like it might have been made between July-August of 1991; but I
can't be for certain, as NO reference is made to the particular sequence
of BKC?

Only way too tell for sure, is to contact the S&W historian Mr. Roy Jinks
and for a small fee he will send you a letter confirming date of manufacture.

"...searching for a round butt K Frame..." If you're looking for a round butt K-frame with anything longer than 2 or 3 inches, you won't find it. Unless somebody had a longer barrel put on by a smithy. S&W didn't make them.
You'll likely find the Pachmayr 'combat' grip is better on a 66 or 19 'snub nose' too.
