Just picked up a stainless S&W CS9 with night sights off Auction Arms for $310 (ya, as a matter of fact I am giddy, 3rd best gun deal of all time for me anyway). And since I made arrangments to have it shipped in advance, it will be on it's way to me very very soon. So here are a few questions for you CS9 owners and fans; What holster do you carry your chief's special in? Ammo sensitive at all? Does it seem to prefer any specific round? Any other thoughts and pics would be appreciated.

Thanks. mlk18

Your CS9 appears to be from the "early" production stainless series, as it lacks an ambi safety/decock lever ... although someone could've just as easily have decided they didn't like the "wide" ambi, and had one of the earlier single-sided parts installed ... and the sights appear to be after-market night sights.

These are terrific little guns, and the price seems to be a very good bargain, if everything checks out normal ...

Check out the S&W forum at: http://www.smith-wessonforum.com/cgi-bin/sandwcgi/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro&BypassCookie=true

Search for CS9 related threads under the Pistol section, and you should find quite a bit of info about your new pistol.

I've only got a bit over 1,000 rounds through mine, as it's still fairly new ... Mine has exhibited excellent reliability and accuracy with a decent range of ammunition so far ... 115gr JHP, 147gr JHP, 115gr +P+ JHP, 124gr +P JHP, 127gr +P+ ...

The only internal change of which I'm aware is the plunger of the recoil guide rod. It was plastic on the early pistols, and it's polished stainless nowadays. This isn't a big deal, although the early plastic ones could get a bit scratched up with a lot of disassembly/reassembly in some cases. This is an easy-to-change part yourself, assuming you ever need to do so ... as it simply snaps out & into the recessed spring of the CS design guide rod.

I have been very pleased with the CS9, good accuracy . So far about 750 rds of 115 Winchester and 250 of Federal 135 HP with no problems. I use an inexpensive Uncle Mike’s sidekick #15 that works ok .
That’s a good price , in my area they are $75 to $165 more .

Can the CS9's accept the 3913 or 908 magazines? I am sure they would hang out the grip more, but would make good spare mags.

Great price. I like mine. I use the High Noon Down Under with Clip

That is a sweet IWB holster, I may very well have to invest in one. I am also looking at Don Hume JIT Slide or Bianchi 105 Minimalist for OWB.

I did a search of the old S&W Forum posts, and it seems that you can use 3913 / 908 magazines in the CS9. Anyone actually shoot a Chief's Special with 3913 magazines?

I use an extra 3913 magazine, or 2, for my CS9 when practicing at the range.

I've found it's simpler to keep just one size 9mm single column magazine stashed away with all the other caliber magazines, and whatnot, in my range bag. That way I'll have extra magazines on hand no matter which of the small 9mm pistols I decide to practice with at the last minute ...

I also use that method for keeping spare carry magazines handy for these 2 pistols ...

Of course, I also use full size 14/15 round 59XX magazines for range magazines ... and spare carry magazines ... for my 6906, too.
