Just saw this on Facebook, looks like S&W is dropping T/C. Interesting a buyer isn’t mentioned and I saw in another article all orders for T/C firearms are being canceled. Seems odd that they wouldn’t want to keep their bolt rifle company unless Smith is going to offer a Smith branded one, unless they have no interest in that market.

Budget rifles are a super competitive segment of the market, maybe they’re not realizing the profits necessary to sustain the T/C line?

Too bad if it goes, the Thompson/Center name has been around for a while and has been an innovator in handgun and rifle (even black powder) arms. Sadly, T/C may just become another faded name in US firearms history. :(

Stay safe.

I haven't had any TC products for quite a while. They were hot when we were shooting Handgun Metallic Silhouette in the early 1980s and I bought one, but it soon became problematic as some parts were brittle. Hammers on the handguns broke often and other problems plagued them. I got rid of my .30 Herrett barrel and frame because of such problems and because the handgun didn't seem as ergonomic as I'd have liked.

I still kick myself for not buying the original S&W sport when I had the chance. I stuck my nose up at it because it was $400 and didn't have FA/Dust Cover. How stupid. I didn't realize that they came with Melonite Thomson Center 5R rifled bbl. They were giving them away for a while, It was like 8 years ago and I judged it for having a neutered upper. Could have been easily rectified with an $60 replacement upper for crying out loud.

The new generations aren’t interested in single shot firearms and the respective target sports they were designed for. It’s all tactical and it’s all about firepower for them. And the budget bolt market is saturated by bigger names like Ruger and Savage. Not at all surprised by this news.

Hard to know what effect this will have on the T/C brand. Their rifles are often under-rated and inexpensive. A friend has a T/C Venture .223 and with my reloads, it shoots a very small group at 300 yds.....yes, 300 yds!!

Love my TC 6.5 Compass. It does say S&W on the box along with Thompson. My dad loved their pistols. I never had an interest in them.
