I have acquired a S&W M629-2 .44 mag. wheel-gun in stainless and have been unsuccessful in finding a value for this revolver. It is in very good to excellent condition and has an unfluted cylinder and a 3" ported barrel. All the data that I have found regarding a M629-2 shows a fluted cylinder. Any help in putting a $value on this item would be appreciated.

Figure that the new in box one with a trigger hammer lock is about $700. cost. Yours is worth that same or more to the right colletor.

What's the serial numbr on the gun? The 629-2 came about in 1988, and was changed to the 629-2E in '89, followed by the -3 in later '89. The SCSW shows a run of 5000 3 inch round butt 629s made in 1985, with smooth fingergroove wood grips, but none made later, during the -2 run.

SN is BED5###
The grips are not original (Hogue Monogrip).

I also have an AirLite Ti in .44spl. Model 296. Apparently I have no clue where to look for info. I can't find anything about this gun either. The only hit that turned up info was a revolver for sale on GunAmerica; i'm not a registered user, so no info there.

Given the ported barrel, it sounds like a gunsmith job, not a factory run. That hurts value quite a bit, usually. Posting pictures helps a lot. You didn't mention the grip frame style, and whether it was serrated or not (that helps validating the gun), or front sight type, etc.

1989 is correct, but without a thorough and accurate description, it's hard to value it. As described, it's somewhere between $400 and $700, most likely. That it has rubber grips is an immediate $-100 to -200 on value to factory 3" guns from the '80s - they shipped with very valuable finger-groove combat Goncalo Alves grips.
