What's out there for these rifles? I have a Lithgow SMLE III 1942 that I'd like to toy with. If I search ENFIELD on Midway's sight, I get a whole bunch of stuff, but will any of it work on my SMLE? All the various Number 3 and 4's, Mark 1,2,etc is really confusing. Specifically, I am looking for a synthetic stock, scout scope mount and a spare magazine. A new trigger might be nice, not sure if a smith can smooth out the existing one or do I need a replacement like a Timney?

But I believe ATI makes a synthetic stock and that Darells Scout Mounts may have a scout mount for your model. The magazines should be interchangeable as long as they are .303B. The nice thing about these mods is that you can always reverse them and make the rifle stock. For a trigger try Huber Concepts. If you go to surplus rifle.com there should be links to most of these sites.

Note: No.1 MkIII (which your Lithgow is) magazines, are not interchangable with the magazines from/for the No4 rifles. the differences are minor but they are not totally interchangable and using one type with the other rifle can cause problems.

I don't think you will find any rail systems or tactical fore grips for your #1mkIII. Mainly, replacing the stock and posibly adding a scope are about your only options. The value of your rifle is climbing drastically these days. There are a lot of people out there taking modified Enfields and spending the money to restore tham to their origional condition. Something to think about.

About the magazine, the design is not ment to be loaded and carried loose, like a detachable magazine on an AR or AK. The magazine was only ment to be removed for cleaning. The mag was charged using "chargers" or strippers, if you like. If you need a 5 round mag for hunting, Sportsman's Guide used to have them for the #1. Have fun and good luck.

Here's what I've come up with so far. My SMLE is actually an Enfield No.1 MkIII*. ATI makes a stock that will work, and XS Sight Systems has a pretty neat scout scope mount that I'm going to go with. Thinking about trimming the bbl to something around 18.5-20" and re-crowning, then a Duracoat refinish. How's olive drab with a black synthetic stock sound?
DougW, ref the magazines, I read that the Pro Mag replacements can actually be carried as a loaded spare without the rounds popping out. I'll have to pick one up and see how it does. Attached a pick of the scope mount and stock.

Hey Chuck Perry, that picture of the Advanced Technology Enfield is sick and wrong. Just the thing I am looking for for a #4 MK1 that was given to me thats in pretty rough shape. But I also own a pretty nice original #4 MK1* (Savage) thats going to stay that way.
Word of warning, You won't be able to have just one Enfield and you might even end up buying, trading, finding etc... other milsurps that you gotta have.
