Doing a forestock restoration on my BSA No.1 Mk. III and there’s one small part I can’t find for sale, or even mentioned, anywhere I’ve searched. That’s the very slender brass screw that’s about a quarter inch forward of the butt of the forestock on every No. 1 Mk. III that I’ve seen. Does anyone know of a source? Or an alternative means of reinforcing that slender wood bridge at the back of the forestock?

Mine has a brass pin, not a screw, so maybe yours was replaced and so you're looking for a non-orignal part?

The originals appear to be pinned, but some aftermarket sporter stocks (if that's the case here) have screws instead. My Enfield is a No4 Mk1 that was sporterized by Golden State Arms and it has a brass screw.

Honestly as you mentioned all the screw does it reinforce the stock and doesn't need to come out, I'd probably get a length of threaded brass rod about the size of the hole, screw that in then once it's out the other side, trim and sand flush since you're restoring the forend anyways.

No, I think it's a screw (or a threaded pin) original to the factory stock. It appears to be a pin, until that oil-soaked bridge ruptures under recoil and the screw dog-legs out the butt of the forestock, exposing the threading.

Unable to find a skinny enough brass screw or threaded rod for the restoration stock, I went with a 3mm brass pin glued in. A compromise that, hopefully, has some reinforcement value, yet doesn't interfere with the inletting of the stock bolt plate or the movement of the trigger and sear
