There's a scene in the movie "Smokin Aces" where a team of FBI agents is engaged by a sniper located in a distant (at least 1000 yds) tower. The agents immediately start firing out of the window they are taking fire through. Is this actually something they would be trained to do, or just more for action's sake in the movie?

I would guess they would most likely take cover, radio/call ahead to block off the area, and call in a sniper. But thats just a guess.
 
Just for entertainment, firing out a window randomly twards a hotel would end up in alot of civil court cases and dead civilians.
 
I woulda taken cover, periscope around to determine a rough location, pull out the ol' map, compass, and protractor, and called in a fire mission... oh wait... the FBI....

That looked less like a thousand and more like four or five hundred.
 
It wasn't a bad movie, overall. Not great or even good, but entertaining enough with its visual flair and convoluted plot. I enjoyed seeing all the different guns. :p
 
I bought the movie......should have just rented it first.....lol. That's what I get for buying it before watching it.

Like the above guy said, it was ok. Not great. Probably not worth buying, just renting.

I can tell you this though, SOP is not to blindly shoot out a window with no target in view.....especially with pistols at a target that is over 200 to 500 yards away. LOL.

You have a IDENTIFY your target. Not just shoot.

That's like just laying on the ground beneath a wall and just having your pistol over the top shooting.....not trained to do that.

Alas, that's Hollywood for ya.
 
I was a big fan of the guy who was shooting his shotgun out the window at the sniper. Pretty sure even the pistols would've been more effective than that. Maybe he had slugs loaded. Oh well, made for a more exciting action scene, and it is a Hollywood movie after all.

Not just movie... Guys do pretty strange things when they are shot at if they have not had EXCELLENT training.

You will NOT rise to the occasion.
You will DEFAULT to the lowest level of training you have MASTERED!
 
Now that I've watched it, I think the bigger question is how do we get 29 shots of BMG from the 10 round mag?

I thought I saw one of those for sale on ebay. A picture of a HUGE Barret banana mag, after clicking the caption "As seen on Smokin' Aces, NIB 10 round BMG magazine- L@@K"

The best part was that the Feds were trying to return fire against the chick with M82A1 with their shotguns and pistols despite her being hundreds of yards away. When they started doing that I began rooting for her to take them out as that level of stupidity should not be allowed to procreate. Yes I know it is a movie by the way.
 
yeah, like I said if outgunned to that level, I think the feds (who to my knowledge are trained pretty well, especially the ones that would be gaurding such a sought after target) would make sure they brought themselves and the target to an area where they would have to be fought at close range, called in the coordinates of the target and have roadblocks set up and backup brought in.
 
I just watched that movie this morning. I thought that whole scene of them trying to shoot back with pistols was rather stupid.

The movie was ok, difficult to follow. There were so many recognizable actors in that movie too. They doctor form lost, the hispanic from Suddenly Susan, Booger of Revenge of the Nerds, plus a lot of A list actors.

Too bad it did't translate well in the movie.
 
what is stormfront? if you don't mind me asking. I don't listen to punk rock much or even know if they are associated with it or who/what they are.
 
I just clicked the stormfront link, I was quickly disgusted (less than a second) and clicked out (they do have a right to say it, but I wouldn't want to hang around there, not if my life depended on it; also I have already watched documentaries on white supremecists and heard them and find it disgusting, I am willing to hear someone argue but from what I've heard, and just the fact it is white supremecy, I have my mind made up. I tolerate their right to speach but it makes me sick).
 
Aren't the 50 cal sniper rifles mostly for taking out armored vehicles or very long range shooting? Now I think you have a right to own one, but personally I wouldn't drop 10,000 even if I had the cash (although, if I had a TON of cash I would just because it would be cool to shoot). I can't think of a scenario where I could see my target (being in suburbs) far away enough to have any use for one (especially since I can't think of being justified at shooting the target, and it would be damn hard to hit something that far away anyway), other than for fun at the range of course :), but even after getting the gun the ammo seems as expensive as hell.
