Smoothest out of the box 45 action I've ever seen

Okay all, we've gotten off topic. The initial political addition was fine at first, but if you all want to have a discussion on California politics, there's a section for that.

I'd prefer the thread to die a natural death when no one has anything more to contribute rather than be killed by too much political talk.

That being said, let's get back on topic:

I sent an email to STI to see if they had any plans to lighten the LS series. I don't expect a reply until next week due to Christmas and New Years vacations, but I'll post what I find out.

You can't go wrong with STI. I got hooked the same way you did. The owner of my local range/gun store knew I was in the market for a model 1911 in .45ACP. He let me look at Springfield, Kimber, Colt, and several others before showing me an STI. WOW! What a difference - the fit, slide movement, trigger pull were unlike any of the others. I bought an STI Eagle 6.0 and was amazed at its out of the box operation and accuracy. I don't care for polymer guns, not because of any quality issues, but because I like a little more weight, but that's just personal preference.

Heres my STI Spartan I bought new from waterhouse. It n eeded some warranty work done so I called them up, dropped it off at their place for an hour and it worked like a champ :)

When the next big crime scare hits California (ala Helter Skelter), the people will buy guns in a panic like they always have before. This irks the politicos who keep trying to keep guns away from the public, under the guise of protecting them from themselves.

Withdrawing from California is not the answer. If the people need to buy guns and cannot get them, they will take out their anger on the gun companies, not the idiot politicians, who will be quick to blame the gun companies for deserting them in their time of need.

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can keep the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." Thomas Jefferson

I very much agree. It's a California thing, not a STI thing. I have been steering people to STI particularly BECAUSE OF their politics. STI really only has one line you could call 'economic' anyway. (I was living in KA when they passed the policy.)

I have NEVER heard of STI before, but after visiting the web site I'm very impressed. The "Lawman" looks really nice.......I may have just found my next sidearm.....

STI Reply to Email

I sent this email to STI because several people were interested in a lighter LS9:

A few of us over at TheHighRoad.org were discussing STI firearms and had a question about your LS series of pistols. Will there be a lighter model LS? One made from an aluminum or alloy? And if not, what is STI's reasoning behind that decision?

The reply from Mr. Chris Schirmer:

There aren’t any plans to make it any lighter. The only option we would have is to go to an aluminum frame, and there simply isn’t enough demand for them. We have the Rogue pistol on the market now, and it is a 1911 link design gun that is very light weight with an aluminum frame and the sales of that gun are weak enough that it may be pulled from the catalogue. I hope this answers your questions. I am sorry for the extreme delay in response.

The "extreme delay" was probably because I sent the email over the holidays.

So, according to Mr. Schirmer, there just isn't enough demand for the lighter aluminum frame LS9.

So if we want to see one, start sending emails. Only way they will make it is if there is a market for it. And they'll only know that if enough of us say we want one.

Two Questions.......

Since I'm already way over budget in my new gun buying account, I'm almost afraid to ask the first question but......Does STI sell through retail outlets or is it factory direct? We have three gun stores in town and I've never seen the STI.......looks like the "cat's meow" to me! Hope that spreading the wealth will solve my over budget problem....or possibly the bail-out

Second Question and very insignificant: Why do pictures in the Photobucket in recent (and old alike) become unavailable? Sorta irritating to see an interesting thread but picture has disappeared. Maybe it's a setting on my computer??

My EDC is an STI VIP, had a Ranger and there's a Texican in there as well.

I tend to agree with the non-fans on two points:

1. The California thing - mostly because STI wasn't selling anything there anyway. Had they simply, quietly, discontinued the rare LEO sales without the posturing I doubt anybody would have noticed. The press release just stirred the hive. They had given up on getting on CAL DOJ's roster long before the announcement.

2. For the same amount of money as a 2011 one can get a Baer, Wilson or even a Nighthawk. However, I expect us STI drones really don't care. At least I wouldn't know what to do with the butt end of slide that was hand checkered 40 LPI. There may be some that think the 2011 is attractive but personally I buy the things in spite of what they look like rather than because of it. 2011s are known to cause heartburn among 1911 traditionalists as well.

My next semiauto will be another 2011 and I'll once again look wistfully at the Baers, Wilsons, NHs, Browns, SA Pros etc. And once again march past them to get a 2011.

It's impossible to explain and difficult to understand but I'd bet the OP has a real handle on how the STI might be preferred by some even over the other top names in the business that make far prettier products. Methinks Boba Fett is doomed and has, or will be, assimilated. Welcome.

I get mine from Dawson Precision. There's a couple other places that discount the STI MSRPs.

ETA, I forgot the most excellent option of the discounting, excellent customer service, Fuzzy Bunny Movie Gun and Zombie Novel emporium. There are group buys that surface on and off and I'm sure Larry would be happy to hear from you at any time if there isn't a group buy in process.

STI makes great pistols and anyone who refuses to sell in Kommie Kallie (like a good Texan should) is bound to have their politics oriented just fine.
