So I just watched this video

Near the end Jerry said something to effect of I’ve shot 800,000 - 1,000,000 rounds at it. I knew pro shooters shoot a LOT as I’ve heard Tom Knapp talk about how many rounds he had shot but still my first reaction was simply... :what: but upon further thought and reflection that’s probably only a fraction of what he has done, given his age and his ability to fire 1k rounds on target in about a second.

It got me to thinking about how many rounds I’ve shot in my life. It’s really hard to narrow down but I’d guess somewhere in 15-20k neighborhood. The majority of that being 22lr.
I figure the more you’ve shot the harder it would be guesstimate.

Now I’m mainly just curious as to what other THR members round counts may be?

I have been shooting for about 40 years, reloading for most of those years. I selected the 500K-1MM choice. as I have about 500K in just shotgun loads alone, let alone pistol shooting

Only a guess at over 250k, I used to be really into 22lr shooting. Times were good- 22lr was cheap, I wasn't married, I had disposable income & lots of time.
What happened? Panic buying ammo (no more cheap ammo - for periods), I got married (bye bye some time and a good portion of my $) , had kids (goodbye remaining money, all my time and part of my sanity) . now I shoot maybe 8k total rounds per year if I'm lucky but usually less. I used to be good for 25k+ per year. 1000 rds of 22 every other weekend wasn't hard to do.

Strictly centerfire I'm probably looking at 50k or so. Maybe more?

I used to keep very meticulous firing logs for each of my guns. I went through a period where I was shooting 12-15,000 rounds a year. I’d be surprised if Jerry hasn’t shot well north of a million!!

Hi...
I don't keep records about how many rounds I shoot or even how many rounds I shoot in a particular firearm
What I do know is that I have been shooting regularly since I was 18 years old and I am now 65.
If I only shoot 1000 rounds a year that would be 47000 rounds. I routinely shoot more than 1000 rounds a month.

I have been through so many 500 round bricks of .22LR in my life that I suspect I have shot over 100,000 rounds conservatively speaking.

I buy small pistol primers 5000 at a time 3-4 times a year. The same with large pistol primers. I also buy at least 1000 small magnum and large magnum pistol primers a year and sometimes many times that number. Rifle primers are bought a thousand at a time a couple of times a year.

I don't be reload shotgun shells but shoot several thousand rounds of 12ga every year.

I think I shoot a bit more than some and a bit less than others.

I estimated a total of 100-250k over the last 47 years.

I didn’t think really all that much about it, but then again it all adds up, and adds up quick. Thinking about the dozens of bricks of 22s and bulk pack upon bulk pack of 9mm, 38, 357, 12 ga, 20ga, cases of 223, and a few spam cans of 5.45x39. Then there’s the .270, 9mm, 38, 32, 223, etc that I have reloaded, and no my .270 has not had a luxury life sitting in the safe and coming out to play one box a year, it’s eaten somewhere north of 8000 as my best guess, so that’s a significant chunk because for a long time it was my only centerfire rifle.

Let’s put it this way... I have emptied at least 20 cans of powder, and absolutely no less than 8 of those were through the .270 and 3 of them through the .357, and a few cans of 3031 through the 30-30 and 7-30 and a few cans of trail boss, 231, aa5, aa7, bullseye, and untold volumes of pyrodex through my rifles.

I couldn't give much of a ballpark, but just based on the cost of ammo and only having owned a firearm for about 7 years, I know for a fact it's less than 5k.

I've not keep written records thus a estimation would not be valid either most likely enough empties to fill several 55 gallon drums.

I figure the more you’ve shot the harder it would be guesstimate.
That's what I figure, especially if a responder to this thread remembers that they spent a while shooting an M-16 and/or an M-60 way back when. "How many rounds have you fired in your lifetime" does count military service, doesn't it?o_O

Hard to say. When I was a teen we bought 22 ammo by the case. Later years we shot skeet and clays every week. There were a few years when I shot precision pistol and IDPA. Then there are a zillion trips to the timber for whitetails and range time just to see what my rifles would do. I would guess several hundred thousands.

So I really have no idea but for many, many years I would shoot two to three bricks of .22 LR OR or standard velocity ammo 3 times a week practicing year around for local league competition. Another gent and I would split costs on a pallet of .22 around once a year and it went away rather quickly I remember. I have one Ruger MKII that has a documented 70K through it before firing pin failure and another 30K since. I am pushing around 2M+ rounds of .22. The rest I can estimate having shot up about 900K+ metallic primers in the last 45 years. Then is the trap shooting........

I'm not sure I'd be able separate it into just personally-purchased ammo. Pretty sure I could not even guess the amount of crew-served ammo expended (does being an AG count?)
I might have better luck with a "shot fewer than ten" list (all loaners):
.218bee
.22-250
280rem
.32-20
9mm longo
.444 marlin
.416rigby (only three of those, and that was enough)

Most anyone seriously into action pistol shooting competition will fire over 20,000 rounds a year just for that goal, forget shotgun sports, rifle, etc. That is not the end all for Mr. Miculek though and the number of bullets that the contraption has caught is nowhere near the amount he has shot either, rather a fraction.

I did like it and even took a photo of it some years ago because I thought with a burner under the container to melt the lead, to make ingots without messing with the dust, it would be great.

Not sure how old the OP's video is but I did notice he still hasn't replace the left fender (with the bullet hole in it).

A better video would be of the Steel challenge targets he has between the front and rear berms of his range. There is quite a bit of thought in some of them.

I have absolutely no idea how many rounds I've sent down range. I carried the M60 while on sunny vacations around the world that Uncle sent me on. Plus all the rounds fired in training. I qualified with pistols, SMG's, rifles, medium and heavy machine guns every year.

Dang! I'm going to think about this the rest of the day! And I had stuff to do.

I really have no idea. I usually go shoot until I accomplish what I intended when I headed out to the range, or got tired and hungry and decided it was time to go in. There were several occasions when it was up to when the NCOIC got tired and hungry. Between that, shooting for fun, practice and participating in 3-gun matches, weekends at the trap club, and helping with hunter sight ins, best I can do is smile when I think about it.

Enough to wear out numerous barrels or entire guns in my life. Sure wish I had all that ammo now- even though most of it was "free".

Seriously guys...if our wives found out that number and then factored in the cost, they would triple their beauty salon visits and start going to a day spa 7 times a week...I'm just saying, might be better left unsaid.
