So...I bought this Taurus...

B Taurus.jpg 2 XTX22.jpg G3 Taurus.JPG
Bob, I've been a big fan of Taurus revolvers for years. At least the "old" ones from the late 70's to the early 90's or so. Those were great guns. I know nothing about their current production revolvers however. I had a 431, five shot, 44 Special that I still kick myself for selling.
Same here. Old but good. G3 and two TX22's are new and I haven't had a problem with the .22's that wasn't ammunition related.

I understand what you’re saying but you might want to draw the line at the Jimenez….

Naw...comeon...they're cheap. There are a lot of good reviews on U-tube. I'd like to try one myself and might do it if I ever see one for sale. What's the worst thing that can happen? It does turn out to be a piece of junk? Big deal. I'll have a cool story to tell on myself. Lord knows, I've wasted that much money on a lot less in the past. I used to be a "semi-pro" bass fisherman. You wouldn't believe the stuff I wasted money on doing that.

Inch for inch, pound for pound, the fightingest fish in North American. Yeah, I'd believe the expenses -- my dad (a college professor by trade) dabbled as a pro bass fisherman for a while until he dedicated himself to muskie fishing...We are talking serious money spent on rods, reels and lures.

Pretty sure most of us here have at least once bought a cheap handgun because we had the money on us, and it was there. A $99 Makarov? Heck yeah! A $139 Charter Arms revolver? Didn't know I needed it, but oh, yeah! A $239 Taurus PT-58? Well now, way cheaper than a Beretta .380!

The interesting part is that there are any number of "budget" handguns that are typically reliable and acceptably accurate. Taurus, SCCY, Canik, RIA come to mind. But a lot of us (I'll include myself) tend to be snobs and prefer big name brands, semi and full custom, and high prices.

It's a bit of a shame that Taurus isn't making as much a variety of semi autos now, but that may be them focusing on their best selling pistols and to keep quality good. I would like to see Taurus bring back .32 and .380 subcompacts and some day offer a 10mm.

Since everyone else is doing a 5.7, Taurus will likely do that too.

I have the Gx4 on the way, I'm excited. Taurus is doing us a solid offering good quality pistols now and not jacking the prices up. I appreciate that and will continue to give them my money until that status quo changes.

I bought a Taurus the other day. It was on sale, and I had a couple of store gift cards that dropped the price to around $225.00 so I figured I had nothing to lose really. I've never owned a Taurus semi before, but I'm somewhat a sucker for guns with a bad reputation.

The gun in question is a G-3, T.O.R.O., optics ready polymer framed, striker fired, semi, that comes with two magazines, one fifteen and one seventeen rounds. The trigger is a semi-conventional "Glock type" trigger, with the trigger dingus, but that allows second strike capability. Got a dud round? Just pull the trigger again. Oh, the trigger breaks about five pounds, but does have a long takeup before hitting "the wall." Once at the wall, it's a nice clean break. Reset is short, and distinctive. (The second strike thing, at least for me, seems to be of dubious value. I actually had a dud strike round in my first range trip with it, and I never thought about the second strike. I just racked the side, ejected the round/chambered the next and went back to shooting. Upon recovery of the "dud" it fired fine upon being reloaded, so at least in theory, the second strike might have been faster.) There is also a manual safety in the normal 1911 type position. Sights are white dot front, black rear, steel, using a Glock type mounting system to allow for use of any sight that will work on a glock.

The gun came with four mounting plates for various optics, something I probably won't take advantage of, but it's nice that it is there. Maybe someday.

I took it to the range, and put 100 rounds through it, all FMJ. Fifty Sarsilzmag left over from the great ammo shortage, and another 50 of blazer brass. No malfunctions of any kind. I shot it about as poorly as I do most other guns, but no worse. I don't know how many times I've "dry fired" it with a laser cartridge, but it shoots that well, like a laser beam.

First 50 rounds, Blazer brass 115 FMJ from the 7 yard line.

I think I'm going to like this one. Excuse the pictures. The gun was dirty, and I could see I needed to clean the Ren Wax out of the roll marks.

I am glad that you purchased a Taurus firearm that actually functions well.
My experience with Taurus was not good. I purchased a new pistol in .40 S&W a while back, but it was nothing but trouble, and I did not want to go through the "send the gun to us and wait" type of deal, so I just sold it for a fraction of the price, after only 2 weeks. Since then, no Taurus for me.

I am glad you are enjoying your new pistol. I generally like Taurus products and will give them a go. Currently have one of their 1911’s and I really like it.

Recently owned a PT-145 that I also liked a great deal. Never gave me any problems, and I liked shooting it depsite the long/spongy trigger.

good on ya!

My Dad, if he were still around, might add the Northern Pike as a real contender for Fightingest Fish in North America. Every year he and some of his buddies from work would go up north into Canada and fish for mainly Northern Pike. They always came back with plenty of stories about epic battles they had in catching them!

I have had several Taurus semi-autos, and while they were well made and functioned alright, I just couldn't get use to that long and spongy feeling trigger.

I bought my first Taurus product back in, well, sometime in the early '90's. It was a PT92 and since then I have purchased five more. I still have two of them with the other four traded in on something else I wanted to try out. No problems at all with any of them. Every company makes a lemon now and then. Taurus apparently made more than a few for some years but seems to have cleaned up their act now. I regard every purchase with anything now to be a crap shoot with quality.

I went to a LGS ( 73 miles away ) last Monday to buy a TX22 . They told me that they had one and their computer inventory showed one black model in stock . They could not find it when I got there . They had about 4 people looking for it and I bet they looked for over 15 minutes . So I left empty handed . That would have been my first Taurus . I still plan on buying one , but not from that LGS . I will probably order it from Bud’s .

Little tx22 compact is stupid accurate. Just goofing around at 7 yards. The gx4 I hadda drift sight right more. Wonder if it's just me. I tried more finger, less finger and 124 and 115. Consistent low left.

My G3 has been nothing but reliable so far. First Taurus I’ve ever bought and for the price I’ve been quite impressed. It’s good to see a gun not overpriced that will work when you need it to.

I bought a TX22 last year on sale. Liked it so much I bought another one. Then the G2c went on sale with a rebate. I liked it so much I went back and bought a G3C with the rebate. It's been my EDC for over a year now. Best bang for the buck ever. I was never a Taurus fan, in fact treated them with disdain until I got the TX22.

Funny thing is that both the G3/2c and TX22 fit my Springfield Armory XD9/40 holsters.

I've had the g3c for a couple years now. Taurus is now selling a toro slide for the g3c. I was thinking of trying it out but I doubt I will. I'm pretty much happy with it as is. I had some problems getting it broke in but the last 6-700 rounds have been without a single fail and I've gotten fairly good with it.

CajunBass after seeing your thread the other day I stumbled onto something. It appears Taurus is offering a $25 dollar rebate on the G3 right now. I should have linked it for you but if you do a search I'm sure you will find it.
I hope you enjoy your pistol. From your description it seems they have improved the trigger. I had a Millenium Pro PT111 G2. It worked but I really disliked the trigger so I sold it.

@CajunBass Sorry, somehow I messed up on my previous post. I was going to tell you after seeing your thread I stumbled across a rebate for the G3 pistols. Only $25 but still would be $25 you didn't have. It seems to be very specific about dates of manufacture. Taurus USA

Maybe you can get a couple of dollars back.

Your description of the trigger sounds like they may have improved it since the Taurus I had. I had a Millenium Pro PT111 G2. I sold it because I didn't like the trigger.

Trigger on my g3c is actually pretty nice. Not a real light but the break and reset are pretty crisp and well defined.
Its cleaner than my p10c, and miles ahead of any Glock ive shot. Not as good as my Caniks tho.

The more i shoot this gun the more i like it. Rested i could clang my 10" gong at 90yds easily, shooting free hand hits were probably 2-4 per magazine. Next time im out ill probably bite the 30 dollar a box bullet, and buy some factory ammo to test accuracy with. I was just shooting my buddies random handloads.
The dots a cheapish Cyelee, a company id not heard of. It held upto a couple hundred rounds and has been left on since I got it a month ago.....very happy overall.
