I picked up this Egyptian MISR Maadi the other day for $339 OTD (yes including tax!) at my local shop, I couldn't resist.

The Stock has the Maadi logo on the buttplate so I'm pretty sure this was never intended to be one of the thumbhole stock versions. It came with a 30rd mag, however from what I've read about these they originally came with US made 10rd mags and if you use hi-caps you are breaking the law, is this right?

I can buy US made mag parts easy enough I suppose, or just buy complete US made mags. This is the way the gun shop sold it to me, but I don't want to be breaking the law by using imported mags. Anyone have any insight on this matter?

The gun shoots great, I took it out today and put a 80 rounds through it and even bump fired for the first time:D The Bore is excellent, the receiver has some scratches but overall not too bad and besides its not meant to be pretty its just meant to go bang.

Here's some pics of it.

It's all really going to depend. To be honest, I have seen thumbholes with the bakelite/plastic maadi logo butplates. The key will be to tell us:

1) Importer
2) Model designation stamped on the receiver
3) Anything stamped on gas block?

If imported by Steyr, you're 100% okay (and got a screaming good deal).

I have a Maadi that was imported by PARS International.
It came with a laminated thumbhole stock and three 10 shot magazines.

I put US made internals and gas piston and black plastic US made furniture on the gun along with a windage adjustable RPK rear sight and use whatever magazines I want in it.

The rifle is a bullet hose but still fun to plink with.

+1 on what Ash said.

I have a Maadi ARM (the thumbhole version) imported by ACC somethingorother, bought in the late 1990s for like $200. It's not as nice as the Steyr imports but it does the job. Currently in the process of converting it to US parts status ... KVAR fixed stock sets are not easy to get these days!

On the gas block its stamped "MISR S/A"

On the receiver is stamped "Made by Maadi Co in Egypt" and below that "Imported by CAI of St Alb Vt"

From what I understand and what research I've done its a MISR/90 built using MAK 90 internal parts.
