So what IS the consensus on using loc-tite on scope ring screws?

I've never used it, and to date and for decades I've never had rings come loose. What I do instead on my heavy recoiling rifles, is dab a little bit of nail polish on the threads. I can't imagine having to cut rings off, and I've seen this play out before, because the inverted screw head or other gets stripped out trying to loosen them.

I always use it on any screw that I want to stay in place (blue). I can't see how it would hurt anything and its better to be safe than sorry. I did have an interesting experience recently however.

I bought a rifle and leupold bases at Cabelas. I figured I would have them mount and boresight the rifle as it was free. After waiting around a "gunsmith" brings the rifle out to me for inspection. I asked if they used Loctite and he responded rather harshly that they did not and never will!

I looked at the screws when I got home and noticed the tell-tale blue on the threads :D

NO Locktite! Go get a bottle of your wifes/girlfriends fingernail polish and put a dab of that on the screws and they won't move. When it comes time to get them out, no problem! The choice of color is yours.
