SOCOM 16 - Hype or worth it?

My friend brought his to the range a while back and accuracy wasn't its strong point. Absolutely beautiful rifle though.

I used a real M14 in the service. Mine was very accurate. Have sad many times that I put 9 out of ten shots in one hole at sight in. Several of,us hit 600 meter pop ups from the prone position. I thought about buying a SAI M1 but reports of poor accuracy and other issues stopped me. There must be a big difference in quality between real US GI new and what they sell now, plus they are way over priced.

The only tangible problem I have with the entire platform is the price. The M1A Socom is the best $800 rifle you can buy for $1600...:banghead:

They charge that so they can pay all the back and forth shipping charges and repair costs for the warranty work that is needed. However I would think the money they save by not performing effective QC measures would cover a good part of that.

Well, I am surprised of the replies here. Sounds like the M1A isn't worth the price. I had always thought they were a somewhat special gun, but I have never had anything close to one besides my current Garand.
