On the EDC flashlight thread, I mentioned I was getting this puppy:

http://www.sog-knives.net/sog-knife.php?prodnum=SL1M, SOG SL1M.
Light, knife, and apparently a whistle all in one package, and for a very reasonable price.

Well thanks to expedited shipping to my job, it came in less than 24 hours after placing the order.

With the blade closed, the entire package is 3" x 2-3/4" at 3/4" thick. Very lightweight, clipped to, or stuffed in a pocket you could easily forget about it. But heavy enough (about 2oz. according to the package) you'd know if you had dropped it. It has a lanyard hole if you don't want to clip it on a pocket.

The knife blade is small, about 1-1/2" in a sheepsfoot design. Straight blade, no serations. Shipped sharp enough to shave the hair off the back of my hand. Not anything I'd use as a combat knife, but that wasn't the intent of this blade, either.

The flashlight is a single LED. It's not going to illuminate an entire room; it's more for up close illumination. The light, while bright enough to hurt the eyes, disipates quickly. After a dozen feet, illumination isn't much to write home about. Operation is a twist on, twist off. I was hoping for a push botton.

While the light is a part of the overall package, the light and knife can be separated.

The emergency whistle isn't something I've tested yet, since I'm still at the office. I'll give it a go later. It is incorporated into the handle of the knife.

It won't replace my EDC, and it will probably wind up in the glove box of the car, to be honest. For the price, About $20, they are affordable enough to justify getting another to put in the wife's car, too.

Overall, I'd give it 4/5 stars. As a utility knife or part of an emergency/ breakdown kit, it's a great little multi-tool.

Being a sucker for gimmicks and a lover of knives in general, I also ordered the SOG Contractor 2x4. http://sogknives.com/store/FF-01.html

This knife will make a great addition to my workbench. The thing includes a pencil sharpener, level indicator and wire strippers. It also has a "lucky nail" a concept I apparently don't get. More info when I get it.

I had an older Tool Logic that worked pretty well for something barely thicker than a credit card.
