It just flat don't pay ta get outta bed. It just ain't been my week.

Got up early...about 0500 give or take...slammed a couple-three cups of Turbocoffee down my neck and headed for the range. Had to make sure that extractor was gonna act right, after all...It did. Many plates were droppin' on the rack, and the air was filled with flyin' brass. I was a happy guy.

As is my habit, I carried 4 pistols with me...I let'em cool off every 6 mags. Hey! They're beaters, but that don't mean I wanna break'em.

Pistol #3 in the lineup started off in the usual manner. Third mag into it's turn, I had a bolt-over FTF on the next to last round... Shocked was me...Haven't had a bolt-over since before Richmond fell to the northern invaders. Cleared the stoppage, and checked the mag. Nothin' unusual.
Reloaded the round in the mag to do a quick double on the stop gong from the leather. Slide didn't lock. Checked the mag again...No problem was apparent. Racked the slide, and it didn't lock. Slidestop busted. Not the pin...The little hickey that the mag follower pushes on to pop the stop up into the thingy to lock the slide.

It was almost too much for me to bear. I slipped in the McCormick MIM stop and carried on with no further problems. Don't wanna use one of my USGI stops in a beater. Gotta save'em for those special occasions... :p

I had to come home and give the stop a decent burial. Poor Yorrick...It had served me well for over 14 years in this pistol...original Colt stop...and it was the least I could do for it. Yes Virginia...Real steel breaks too. Everything does if it's used hard enough. I mean...It's a beater, fer cryin' out loud. The mission of the beater is to ultimately be shot to destruction. A sacrificial lamb, so to speak. Gimme a break here!

Will report on how well the McM stop holds up. It's gonna take a real beatin'
before Christmas. If it fails, I'll try the Brown Hardcore and report back.

Shot the same gun with the same mag 3 times. No further feed problems. I guess the little doohickey that broke off the slidestop got tangled up in there and caused the ruckus...

Dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it... :D

200k

I'm workin' on it Jeffro..I'm workin' on it. When you gonna roll your ol' tired patoot down here for a visit. Easy for ya now that I'm 5 minutes off I-85.
One interchange...95 to 85 and a straight shot...A half-hour and change from Greensboro.

We'll leave the light on for ya.

I am one buzy beaver..... no free time in the immediate future.

I've had an unlimited range pass for the NRA since April and have only gone 3 times

I think I need a vacation :scrutiny:

Hey Tuner, on my shopping list for Raleigh yesterday was some 225gr fp bullets. None to be had, not even the Beanies folks who acted like they never heard of 225's, but they had some 200gr. Thot I'd picked up a box to tide me over, but noticed this morn that I got SWC instead. Prob have to use them as I'm about out. Guy selling Alliant was there but didn't have any either. His prices and Beanies were both $22 a box plus tax on Beanie. Danged lead is getting pricey.
