some help please....

I have a very dear friend that I loveingly call my second mother and she has an old colt 45cal (i thank its a 1911) that she had gotten for her late hubby. I was talking with her lastnight and she said that she would give me the old colt 45 when she moves mainly because her osteoporosis gives her fits when she fires it. Its great to see a near 70 year old woman fire such a large hand gun.
but my question is should I offer a smaller hand gun in return because she will only have a 25 auto at that point ( i know she wont take money from me we had that talk lastnight ) and she always has a weapon handy. she is willing to give it to me becasue she knows that I will take care of it and shoot it, like her and her hubby did. Her hubby was a POW in the vetnam war. Any sugestion on what I should get for her.

Small .38 revo or a .32 H&R magnum revo. Leaning towards the .32 H&R.

Perhaps one of the .380 ACP Barettas with the tip-up barrel so she dosen't have to retract the slide if her hands are hurting her.

thoes are very good suggestions. I leaning towards the 38 Revo. but I like the tip-up options of the 380.

I think a special gift in exchange for the honor of carrying (and careing for) the family handgun is very appropriate. Perhaps a .357 would be a good option. She could practice with light target loads and keep it with CorBons (or other powerful type). Should she need it her adrenaline will likely cause her to barely feel the recoil.

I'm 71 YO and it's becoming more difficult for me to rack the slide as the years go by.

Please keep her in the loop when selecting a replacement gun.

If she selects it, she more likely to shoot it, and thusly become more proficient.....and safer.

If she liked the 1911 you may find a decent colt 1903 pocket auto for
her. I've seen them in refinished condition for reasonable prices.

Of course, have her involved in choosing the replacement for the .45. On jsalcedo's idea of a colt 1903 pocket auto: I think it's a good idea to get this lady something with "class" like that. She certainly demonstrates it herself.

I'd recommend a .357 magnum or .38 special revolver with the largest rubber grips she can hang onto comfortably, or perhaps a small shotgun. I don't know anything about shotguns, but believe there are some light bore models.

I think she should go out and buy a lightweight .38/.357 revolver. Nice rubber grips. No slide to rack, no manual safety. Simple and easy to use. Some practice with her might be nice too.
