Crap, someone opened quite a Christmas gift there.... Any news on what was taken, it looks like there is still some stuff in there.

Agree on OP's assessment, $5 says it was either someone who'd done work in his house (plumber, cleaner, mover who brought the couch in, etc.).

Pretty typical of most gun safes. Keep in mind that most gun safes with an RSC rating are tested for a period of 5 minutes against a small hammer and large screwdriver.

Pretty straight lines. Hard to say if it was a grinder, concrete saw, circular saw, or sawzall. Either way, just a few minutes worth of work.

Typical gun safes are for typical gun collections. Do not store valuables, paperwork, photographs, or anything else (besides guns) that the manufacturer says is OK.

Well....they were lucky that wasn't a high quality safe. They would have been there all year and still failed.

That technique would not have worked on my safe. Mine has a piece of 3/4 inch armor plate as the skin on the front door.

Big difference between a safe that weighs 500 pounds and one that weighs 2000 pounds.

Cheers
Mac.

IIRC 67% of all burglaries are committed by someone who has been in your home before. If there are kids in the house often the kids themselves, their friends or friends of friends.

Next largest group are service and repair folks, or their friends. Control strangers in your house as best you can.

Good Insurance is the best answer, and that ain't a great one. I do suggest an dogs and an alarm system. None of them are perfect, but keep striving.

Good luck & Merry Christmas.

Fred

Im still cracking up that someone actually classified that as a "Safe". That is simply a modified file cabinet with some fire board. Cheap, thin, useless metal.

a monitered security system on your home is worth more than any safe or insurance policy (although i recommend having ALL of the above)

Plus, they used his own tools. A circular saw w/carbide blade.

The best safe is one nobody but you knows about. Guaranteed the perps knew the victim.

Hide or lock up your tools. Or rent instead of owning them if you don't use them often. And I agree, best if no one knows about it.

If a theif has time any safe can be opened. An oxy-acetylene torch can cut into any gun safe pretty quickly.

Sorry, but
YEAH
AND......

If a person has time and opportunity
Any safe, vault or lock will be defeated even by crack head idiots
To quote the locksmiths on here, a safe is a layer, just a layer.

edit,
and with a safe like that, it's just a little of the first and some of the second for someone who knows what they are doing.

Rule #1 - Never keep power tools next to your safe.. Best to hide the tools or keep them in a locked room.

Most thieves will not bring their own power tools with them, unless they are hardcore professionals which is not the majority of burglars. You're just asking for it if you put your power tools right near your gun safe.

to me the best safe is the one you can't see. false walls or floors. fake refrigerators backs or water heaters. you have to be more deceptive then ever these days.

Same here.

It wasn't difficult; You just need to remember how easily people will dismiss the familiar.

People put Pictures and list all their Guns on the Net, Face Book is a shopping list for the BG's. I don't show my Guns to anyone. I made cloth bags that I carry my Guns in so no one see's what I own and can tell how many. I shoot here, on this Property, out of sight, have three shooting areas. Just finished the newest one 215yds, I never shoot on weekends there are too many people driving around. I load and unload my Truck when people aren't Out and about. Where I used to live I planted bushes to block what I was doing. Show and Tell will cost you a lot of money. IF you trust Family members, your nuts.

At least they didn't get the door open.

"Well they managed to break the 2 top shelves out cause the contents to fall where they could reach it They got 50th Anniversary 44 mag flat top several hundred in change the wife was saving, Some more older coins saved. They were not able to open the door though.

They pulled the Flattop in it's box w/ serial # and receipts through the hole but for some reason they were not or did not get the long guns out though they are dusted up and couple had scratches on stocks nothing I can't fix.

Amican Eagle is a Cannon safe and Cannon has already told me they will replace and install a new it's part of the warranty if burglarized. They could have had more though My XD Springfield fell down too they just missed it and they must have not know nwhat the the Nikon Rangefinder or my binoculars was worth?"

That's one of the reasons I dont like composite doors.
But then again I also realize they could have done the same thing on the side of the body.
Another picture for my collection.

You are not going to stop the PRO. As for ALARMS???? I work LE and have seen someone go into an ALARMED house and leave with 30K in goods in under 90 seconds. Responding Police were in the drive in 30 seconds after dispatch and the perp was GONE!

this from the victim

I have that brand safe and it may not be a real safe but it was $500. and they didn't get the door open.

the only reason they didn't get the door open was,

wait for it

they were idiots, and besides, they could have cut the side and saved a bunch of time
