Someone asked to be "bored" by reading my Ruger 10-22 Accuracy Tips

I havent done any mods to my 10/22 and all I have for an optic is an old Sears and roebuck Ted William's 4x I found in a box of giveaway stuff someone dropped in my grams garage for a yard sale and it shoots damn well, impressive for an old relic like that.

I'm hesitant to state a group size without taking a measurement but I often shoot it at 50 yards and it shoots nice and tight. I'll have to take a measure next time. It likes CCI MM

I like rem subsonics so of course that's what my gemtech barreled 10/22 likes least.

Flyers can be due to a lot of things, especially ammo. Have you bedded the rifle like I suggested, with a pressure pad? Have you re-shaped the firing pin nose to hit below the rim, and spread the flame to each side? Have you relieved the operating handle, so it moves easily in the bolt slot and not bind the firing pin, especially on the first shot after a new magazine load? Have you tried different kinds of better target ammo? (Ruger 10-22s often react more than many bolt-actions to changes in ammo. Un-accurized ones often don't shoot well enough to tell the difference.)
Pitcher....These are great posts with great information thank you very much for sharing........Take care friend....

Im going to try a few of these tricks on the 597 and 597 heavy barrel laminate I just picked up, If either will shoot under 1" at 50yds ill be happy.

I never worked on accurizing a 597, but bedding, firing pin and perhaps headspace improvements should work on them.

That's what I was wondering, gain accuracy with out going all the way down to 42 without harming reliability until it gets real dirty.

I have a real nice after market 10/22 bull bbl I haven't done anything with too.
1/2 inches at 50 yards for a 10/22 is very impressive. Hell 2 inches at 50 yards would impress me with one of those.
You can't imagine what it feels like to shoot your first group under 3/8" at 50 yards! That not only takes a good barrel and careful accurizing, but the right match ammo and lot number for that particular rifle, and good benchrest skills. Semi's love to be held down fairly hard on the bags and against the shoulder.

Had a 1022. Did a lot of work to it. Gave it to my stepson. It "bored" me. Received an 1890 pump Winchester from an uncle. Have been literally having a blast since. Just bought a Tang sight for it. When the weather gets warmer I'll install it and hopefully get some more accuracy.

I am trying, I am trying. :D

Appreciate the accurizing 10/22 info.

I am maintaining my 10/22 mostly factory for the "real world" 22LR ammo comparison thread but will consider trying some mods.

Your 10/22 sounds a lot like my 10/22! No mods done to it with the exception of adding swing swivels to it. Found an old Weaver K 2.5 scope to put on it and it's great out to 50 yards with CCI Mini Mags or Wolf Match Target.

I love old pump rifles! They often shoot very well and are so solid.

Just ran across this picture that shows the difference between a factory 10-22 firing pin strike (left) and an improved one, after grinding the same pin (rt.). The one on the right stays away from the rim fold and is deeper, pointing the flame to each side of the firing pin strike. (I don't remember if both were done without firing the shell, or I whether I pulled the bullet before testing that shell.)
