and stole my gun. :(
it was the first gun i ever bought too - a WASR-10. i really loved it.
i picked up a shotgun a few days ago but it's not the same. :/

people suck sometimes. hopefully your week was better than mine!

I know how you feel. It's been a few years but a low life broke into my house and stole my 1911 gold cup that was given to me by my father for a HS gradulation present. I never got it back. Good luck you may get it back.

Fred

Man, I am sorry to hear that. I have experienced it myself and it sucks. I gather that you and your family are safe. If it's any consolation, this gives you a reason to buy another gun. :)

Sorry to hear about your gun, hope they recover it.

I worry about that kind of thing happening, especially since I take my dog (she's a Great Dane, and my Service Dog) with me when I leave and that leaves the condo ripe for the picking. Fortunately I now live in a low crime area and my neighbors are mostly retired busy bodies with little more to do than watch the parking lot during the day. Never thought I'd be glad to have nosy neighbors.

I suspect that the closer we get to coronation day, there will be a rash of stolen WASR's and MAK's and others...

Seriously though, sorry to hear about it. Did you make an insurance claim? Hope so.

Write down the shotgun's serial number, in case it gets stolen too.

Definately agree - also you should get a photo of your shotgun, and keep it with the original sales receipt (somewhere other than with the gun). That will help to identify it if that one gets stolen.

Wow, who would have thought there was crime in Vermont. I also suspect someone you knew or knew you had the gun, stole the gun. It would be a good idea to invest in a good gun safe.

yeah, i'm pretty sure at this point that it was someone who knew me, or at least who knew i had the gun. unfortunately there were pictures of me with the gun online (shooting it and what not), so it's hard to say exactly how many people/who knew i had it. it's unfortunate. i guess now i know better, though...

and yes, i'm filing an insurance claim and will hopefully get a new rifle once i get the $$ from insurance. as a female who lives alone, it's been a jarring experience to say the least... even though i live in one of the "safest" states in the nation. thanks for all the responses. :)

The reason I figured that is my home was broken into when I was younger and the only thing stolen was a SKS I had. I finally found out it was my buddy's wifes little brother. He had never been to my home but knew it was there through word of mouth threw my friend or his wife (I assume).

The funny thing is, he left expensive digital cameras, TV's, and all kinds of other stuff just sitting there in plain view.

yeah, the same thing happened to me. only my computer and gun were taken while my tv and digital camera were left (although my tv's screen had been smashed)

oh, AND they took this off my kitchen wall:

sounds like a gun enthusiast to me.

If I were a betting man I'd say they are young (-18) and not very smart. The kid that broke into my house was 15 or so and I'd bet the same in your situation.

They want to take the "cool" stuff and destroy things instead of grabbing the things of most value like a seasoned thief would do.

The SKS I had was a $150 Norinco (7-8 years ago) and the kid left a $350 camera and a $600 stereo receiver sitting right on the shelf.

I hope you catch whoever it is.

turnyourback, what part of Vermont are you from? My friend had his AR stolen by an 'acquaintance' a few years back, but unfortunately it 'disappeared' out of a State Police lockup before it was returned.

An interesting tidbit, we tracked down several people with whom it had changed hands. Apparently, the original thief sold it to a fence for 13 Percocets!

An important reminder to keep track of all of your fire arms serial numbers and to have pictures of them all as well. Serial numbers are the easiest way to track firearms and if it is ever pawned at a pawn shop, they file a police report for every item they take in including firearms, with the serial number. Also a good idea to look at how much coverage your homeowners policy provides for firearms, mine only allows for 1000$ thusly a separate writer for guns is a necessity.

Good point. I have all my handgun serial numbers in an excel file but including photos would make it even more useful.

Within the past year I have switched from a *gun cabinet* to a 600# safe. Even have a one gun safe in my truck for that spare handgun I leave behind when walking the hills.

ive been broke into three seperate times, (apparently they brought some sort of food or my dog would never had let them in the yard). ive never had a gun stolen but alot of dvd's and games. i started writing all my guns serial numbers and keeping the most valuble somewhere a thief wouldnt look or in something they cant get out of the house. make some friends with your niehbors i did and now we watch each others houses. i really hope they catch the guy/kids, a stolen ak style rifle in the wrong hands is bad, really bad.

I hide and/or secure the "family jewels" as well. I had a burglar walk right past some larger and less valuable/desirable guns I left out in my den about two years ago. Long arm theft is rare around here; it's so easy to buy them without ID from private sellers advertising them in the circulars, without going to prison.

I'm not a big believer in cabinet gun safes, but I've said that before. Buying large safes for all my inexpensive military surplus rifles would be like putting a $3,000 car alarm on a $300 car. Plus they take up so much dang room and weigh so much. You all can have them.

i stay closer to home now that ive retarded and my two dogs are a definite deterent to the crack heads around here. bubba is a lab spaniel mix and hes scary especially at night because hes jet black, and loves to tackle people and tear their crotch to shreds while he works up to their throat. do i get complaints about my agressive dog? heck no.
as long as hes with me or the wife hes fine but i wouldnt risk even arguing with her with him in the room. i hope they find the rat btard
that broke in. and hang him
