Another prototype, and this one is actually a proof of concept for something that I may not be so quick to share with it's market potential.
Getting square profile cans to sound decent is tricky; they tend to be rather snappy. Also, getting short critters to suppress decently is another challenge, which is why most suppressors lean toward the long & thin pattern. But I wanted to see if I could make a legitimately hearing safe pistol can of ~ 5" OAL, and I succeeded. Not as quiet as the Osprey or some 7"-8" long stacked baffle cans, but I would estimate the dB at around 130-133 with 147 gr. subs.
She measures 1.4" wide x 2.4" tall x 5.3" long, weighs 13.8 ounces with piston. A little heavy, but without the ability to temper aluminum, I found I had to leave the flat sided 6061 housing a little thicker. I had it down to 10.7 ounces, but it ballooned the sides.
It's a two-piece monocore design, and the entire piston housing rotates within to index the can. Once indexed, it's a simple clamp mechanism, tightened by the larger socket head screw you see on the side.
And compared to the Osprey 45:
