.250 Savage and .257 Bob are certainly intermediate calibers. And great ones at that. My favorite intermediate is the 6.5x55

This only applies if you are using a semi auto. A bolt gun has enough extraction force. Also no one is going to use steel cases for a fire formed case. 30 AK improved sounds very doable.

Unless your barrel has a very long shank rechambering a 308 to 7.62x39AI wouldn't be a great idea. You would need to remove most if not all of the old chamber to make it work.I would be fun to rechamber a .308 barrel to this and see what potential it has.
