The Filipinos Marine Scout Snipers a few years ago decided that they needed their own sniper rifle. Their nation did not have the money to pay for expensive fancy sniper rifles from other nations. This meant that they had to take what was available and run with it.
The Filipino Marines sent gunsmiths to America to learn all about upgrading and rebuilding their older M-16 rifles. As a result of trial and error, the Filipino Marines came up with the MSSR or their own version of a M-16 based sniper rifle. They use a 20 inch barrel, fixed stock, a 3 by 9 variable Tasco scope in the first models and shot the slightly heavier 62 grain bullets. This combination of bullets, scope and rifle has worked well for them and repeatedly delivers, well out to and beyond 750 meters, good accuracy.
So this combination of rifle, ammo and scope system is something that some new shooters might want to consider for use when deciding which rifle that they might want to carry for a primary rifle.

Over the years, the Filipino Marines have switched some of their scopes and gear around as the photo above shows but the M-16 still remains their primary sniper rifle.
