Between the Covid-19 stay-at-home lockdown, and four straight days of a cold and windy rain, we finally got a break in the weather.

I set up a B-27 target for his 1911 airsoft pistol in the back yard today. He is a left-eye dominant, right handed shooter, so today was some both-eyes-open training time. I also showed him what a six o’clock hold was, as his first target had a lot of shots high in the 8-9 ring.

For the first go at it he did ok, at a bit over 26 feet he scored a 158/170 4X , 162/170 5X, 160/170 4X at 10 (his gun held 17 in the mag.)

Man, I can’t wait until I can go to the range to shoot again!

You both done good; you with getting your son outside to do a little target work and him for how well he did shooting! I have a Remington 1911RAC and a SIG M17 air pistols that are perfect to get a little indoor shooting in when it's not very nice weather outside!

Great idea to get outside that way. Your boy's stance in the second photo is excellent. It could be used for an article on 'how to shoot a semi-auto pistol'. Thanks for sharing it.

I used to have a damn fine time with a very well sorted M-4 airsoft that was select fire.

Loved harassing the pigeons after grass-seeding spring and fall.

Then, one day, I noted my treasured doves and quail eating the damn ammo!

Took all the fun outa pigeon-popping, dammit.:cuss:

So, along my way came a Mauser Sniper rifle. Less ammo expended and more gratification in Counter-Columbidae Ops.

With the Mauser, I found a good airsoft to be a worthwhile trainer. Lack of recoil not withstanding.

Todd.

I'm boarding a couple of horses for the neighbor; he gets to not buy hay bales for a few weeks and my hillside gets a clearing before the grass dies and becomes a fire hazard. I have about six cottontails that have taken a liking to the one bale of alfalfa hay I have for them (They get a 4" sheaf split between them at night). I'm going to have to commence plunking those vermin before they call more of their friends and they start eating my lawn again...

Stay safe.

Those are sweet airsofts! He bought a USMC-copy 1911 from somewhere on line for under $100 bucks. It recoils and operates like a real 1911, I was impressed at how nice it is. Yours look like ringers for their real guns as well. I went on eBay and got him 100 Co2 cartridges for Christmas...he's slowly working his way through them.

Because it is so realistic I allow him to shoot it up on the lawn near the house, I don't want him setting up targets down on the hillside where the neighbors could see him and call a "man with a gun" call into the locals. Up on the lawn only one neighbor could possibly see him if they took the effort to walk to the far side of their house, look out their windows and peer through the trees.

Stay safe.

Thanks, he's been working on bringing the gun up to his head rather than dropping his head down to the gun. So far he's doing pretty well.

I will say in the top pic I noticed he has his strong-hand thumb under the outside thumb. He said he did that because the safety snicks on easily with the airsoft and this keeps his right thumb from flicking it on. We will work on that with the Ruger Standard .22 that's going to be his someday. ;).

Stay safe.

Yeah the same year I got the Remington for Christmas I asked my "Secret Santa" (a family member draws your name and spends $100 on a gift from your list), to buy me a bulk pack of CO2 cartridges because I knew I was going to burn through those in no time!

I was also a little concerned at how your neighbors would react to seeing you son out there shooting a realistic looking
airsoft gun but it sounds like you've got the geography well in hand. Nice view by the way!
