Work is a little heavy today, so I'm looking at the lighter side of life.

One of my favorite songs of all time is Warren Zevon's Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roland_the_Headless_Thompson_Gunner

I'm not sure which part is more mythical - the ghost of a mercenary traveling the world to seek revenge, or a group of mercenaries fighting in Africa with Thompson guns instead of something either lighter or harder hitting.

A close second is the Beatles' Happiness is a Warm Gun

What songs involving guns or shooting are your favorites?

Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-lam)
Black Betty had a child (Bam-ba-lam)
The damn thing gone wild (Bam-ba-lam)
She said, "I'm worryin' outta mind" (Bam-ba-lam)
The damn thing gone blind (Bam-ba-lam)
I said oh, Black Betty (Bam-ba-lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-lam)
She really gets me high (Bam-ba-lam)
You know that's no lie (Bam-ba-lam)
She's so rock steady (Bam-ba-lam)
And she's always ready (Bam-ba-lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-lam)
Get it!
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-lam)
She's from Birmingham (Bam-ba-lam)
Way down in Alabam' (Bam-ba-lam)
Well, she's shakin' that thing (Bam-ba-lam)
Boy, she makes me sing (Bam-ba-lam)
Whoa, Black Betty (Bam-ba-lam)
Whoa, Black Betty
Bam-ba-laaam, yeah, yeah

I recall someone, Lead Belly?, saying Black Betty was a rifle. I can’t find that reference so I may be misremembering. I have a 78 of Lead Belly singing with hand claps. I like to wind up the Edison and play old stuff.

I never thought of Black Betty as a rifle - she just sounded like a fun girl to know! :D

Delbert McClinton's "Down Into Mexico"

It all went smooth and sweet as honey
We got it all and nobody got hurt
Me and Sherrie, we were countin' the money
When that little gun slid out of her purse
Yeah, that little gun slid out of her purse
That's when she told me 'bout her lover
That's when I knew I was in a terrible mess
She took the blame, and he took the money
I took a bullet in my chest
I took a bullet in my chest

I used to listen to Cypress Hill quite a bit....
I don't think y'all would care for it too much though

Cypress Hill is in my primary playlist in between Ludacris and Tool.

Their songs mention firearms and shooting pretty often, but I can't think of one song where they advocate cautious and safe use of a firearm.

In hindsight maybe;
"Shoulda put the glock down, now they got me in lockdown"
Oh! They do have sage advice...
"When the s..t goes down, ya betta be ready"
