That's two paragraphs, and there's another more important one above those.

Permissible Use of Lethal Force in Defense of Life and Body
The killing of one person by another may be justifiable when necessary to resist
the attempt to commit a forcible and...

yeah there's three, i was just skimming through the PDF file for "deadly force".

I'd just stay out of it, the police officer training isn't easy and if he's almost graduating. Cut him some slack, it's not easy to go through all that training and almost make it through he's got to be smarter then you think.

if it was just a average person, i'd be worried...but that young rookie will have to deal with veteran police officers who'll keep him in check.

MYOB would be my advice, Who are you? the test police?, gimmie a break.
Maybe he doesn't think you otta have a gun either.
Is it any of his if you do or don't?
I shoulda minded mine here too.

Guy on another board wrote the following to me:

"Easy way out. You didn't have to stand up for anything. The salesman won't. The LE won't care. And you'll feel a slight bit better by posting here that you almost did something about it."

There it is... :uhoh:

So, guess I'm in 'trouble' with y'all whether I do or I don't! :what:

If this is for real, then your little chat with him won't have near as much effect as his academy education and his field training with seasoned officers who will be his template for behavior.

In short, whether you say something or not won't matter.

Now you're being ridiculous. We're talking about a public servant here, who is always subject to scrutiny.

OH are we? Was he in Uniform? Is he actually working as a LEO? We both know the answer to these questions.

It's nanny's like you who write laws that make the rest of us Californians have to take that stupid test anyway.

IT IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!!! What part of that DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND!!!

Who cares if you are in "trouble" here or on Sigforum? We aren't your mommy or your daddy. You asked for opinions and you got them.

You work here is done.

The LE grad says he's 'tired', but when further queried about the wrong answers by the salesman the LE still quibbles about the wording of the question(s) and obviously reads too much into them. You’re a bit ‘shocked’, so is the salesman.

Having been a gov't contractor and taken testing for my line of work, I have experienced these sorts of questions. Some questions on some tests are ambiguous and truly require more information than the T or F answer that is required to be submitted to them. Frankly, I would take a good look at the questions asked first and decide. Now, keep in mind this is a response to the original question, not to the rest of the thread....If those questions are listed on the rest of the thread and I see them I will respond likewise.

Always give a man the benefit of the doubt first.

O.K., having the benefit of the additional info, I wouldn't change my response except:

1. The state of CA's gun laws are more ridiculous than I knew before this thread.
2. The man answered a question based on his training - part of which could have been a military background in which that response WOULD be acceptable. The benefit of the doubt response above is sustained.

OK, back to the question: The cadet/trainee answered the question from an LE perspective, and we can only speculate what went though his mind when he answered the question. To be the devil's advocate for a moment, perhaps he had just learned about "anchoring" shots, to use the SAS term for it. This is something private citizens, and even most LEOs, will ever deal with, but the concept does exist, in truly extreme circumstances. I remember the Peruvian commandos who stormed that embassy a few years back, to rescue hostgages, were using anchoring shots. The journalists covering the story did not "get it," and wrote it up as if the commandos were executing the terrorists. I am not saying LEOs in the USA are being trained to use anchoring shots, but we are taught that an apparently unconscious person is still a potential threat.

I remember us using batons and flashlights to knock "contact" weapons out of the hands of an unconscious person, so the paramedics could start working on him. (He had a death grip on a knife and a large flashlight; the flashlight had been snatched from an officer moments before; the bad guy was shot by a backup officer.) Had that bad guy suddenly become reanimated, while still armed, he might well have been shot again. An apparently unconscious person that is still armed with a firearm is an even bigger threat. We are indeed trained to be READY to shoot them.

That question on the HSC test may result in three ways: correct him, haunt him or crucify him.

Some folks don't take tests well like myself. I just hate people that don't study, read, take notes or pay attention to lectures...and when tests/quizes come, they aced it. Even though, I barely pass after disecting the book and studying long nights.

That rookie cop will learn quick when he's out on the streets.

Post your question on as many different forums as possible and see if you can find anyone who doesn't think you're full of crap.

Very nasty. sargespd, violation of forum rules, along with others.

I was merely asking for opinions. Everyone is so nasty on these forums, especially that sigcrap forum, with the, IMO, 'loonies' on that forum.

Unlike others, I don't find any true friends here or on any other forums-and how "nice" everyone is. That's a joke! Say something out of the fold or controversial and they jump all over you like a pack of wolves.

I do get value and bring value to forums with my posts. I just wouldn't want to have most, if not all, of you, over to my house for dinner.

Hate-mongers.

I'd say that's a very good post-makes a lot of sense. The 'system' should straighten him out.

On another matter, this 'anchor-shooting' is not relevant to the discussion. It just goes to show where 'too much knowledge can be a bad thing', just as 'too little'.

It was a simple question with a simple False answer. You don't ASSUME facts not given in the question, not mentioned or even hinted in the question.
