I've gotten a case of shells, a gift card for more shells, and a Dick's Sporting Goods reward card for $10 of shells. Life is good.

for the record, i have never met a single black person who actually celebrated kwanzaa. Sometimes i suspect that the whole holiday was completely made up as a big prank on america, and that it doesn't actually exist.

hahahaha!

What does "political correctness" have to do with anything?

If someone prefers that the term "Happy Holidays" be used in place of "Merry Christmas", it's because Christmas isn't the only game in town at this time of year - which means that "Happy Holidays" is perfectly accurate, not some attempt at covering the PC bases.

And just so ya'll know - all you Christians who celebrate Christmas - you're celebrating a stolen holiday. That "Christmas" tree you like so much? Yeah, that's a Yule tree. How about the mistletoe? Sorry, that's got it's roots in Norse mythology and Druidism. What about presents? Oh, those were first started by emperors in pre-christian Rome. And did you know that there's absolutely no evidence of Christ being born on the 25th of December? That's because what is now Christmas used to be the concluding date of the Pagan festival of Saturnalia, and was only transformed into Christmas in the 4th century or so in order to make it easier for the missionaries attempting to convert the local pagans to sell Christianity to them. But hey, ya'll stole it all fair & square so it's totally cool to call it Christmas, and get all huffy & self-righteous when someone points out the fact that there are other options out there, right?

Don't get me started on Easter or Halloween, either.

My point - stop whining when someone asks that you wish them a Happy Holiday rather than a Merry Christmas. Like it or not, you're not the only game in town. Show some respect, and understand that there are people out there who don't celebrate the way you do. Seasonal elitism is getting pretty tiresome.

I just wanted to point out, in the nicest way possible, that you just made a long post to tell people to stop whining. While whining about the origins of christmas and political correctness and all that. You are exhibiting "seasonal elitism", just in a different way. I thought that was funny :)

Personally, I am not christian but I do not get offended when someone wishes me a merry christmas. Hell, I wish it to other people as well. I think the whole thing is just a hallmark holiday anyway, no one cares about it's origins (stolen or not) or "meaning" anymore. It's an excuse to get together, get a day or two off of work, and exchange gifts. That's all it is these days, and it works!

Merry politically-correct holiday everyone!

Dope

For the record - I don't get offended when people wish me a Merry Christmas - I acknowledge their greeting and wish them a happy holiday in return.

What bothers me is the folks who insist on wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, no matter what they may or may not belive in, and then falling back on the "PC" argument when those who are not Christian get upset about it. It's the implication that those who oppose the Merry Christmas greeting are somehow just doing so to simply maintain "political correctness", rather than genuinely invested in a proper observation of their own religious holidays that bother me. As I said - Christmas isn't the only game in town, and wanting to demonstrate that by using the term "Happy Holidays" isn't pandering to the PC crowd - it's being a human being and including everyone in your well-wishes, even though they don't believe like you do.

And also - I wouldn't call pointing out the historical significance of the origins of a particular set of holidays "whining" or "seasonal elitism". I'm merely showing people that the holiday that they're so keen on representing and keeping in the spotlight wasn't even theirs to begin with, that essentially, they're demanding we all pay sole attention to something that they robbed from someone else. If that's elitism, fine. But at least I'm arguing from a standpoint of "let's all share the season", whereas the other side is "our way rules, end of story."

I am Jewish, was born Jewish, (although I am not practicing) and I have NEVER had a problem with people saying "Merry Christmas." This country is majority Christian, that is a FACT, and anyone who gets all up in arms over Christmas decorations, Christmas greetings, Christmas sales at stores, or whatever, is a whining politically-correct jerk.

yes, perfectly stated

and btw, to whoever deleted my post. kwanzaa is a made up holiday based on racial supremacy (black) and it is a common misconception that it is an african holiday celebrating heritage.

To our Christian friends, Merry Christmas!
To our Jewish friends, Happy Hannuka!
To our Pagan friends, Happy Solstice!
And to our Atheist friends, Have a nice day!

Heard this a few years ago on local radio. I pass it on every year.

To all our military. We appreciate your time, sweat, blood, and sacrifices.
