I believe it's been active since around Christmas, but I just heard about it again. It sounds like it expires soon... Posted from another forum:
I've read in some places, all you need is the NRA # and name of a life member to get the referral. I've read in others that you need the #, name, address, and phone number. Any life members out there that know for sure?
And the million dollar question.... Which long lost Uncle out there wants to sponsor me!?! If anybody is that kind, please PM.
I'm currently a NRA member, year to year, but want to get in on the lifetime deal. I can barely afford the $300, so the $500 non-referral option is out of the question.
Another bonus: I've probably gotten about 5 different people signed up with the NRA in the last year or so. I've got a couple of others interested. If I get lifetime status, I can refer them in to be life members as well!
I'm all about increasing our lobbying power in these uncertain times!
It is back: NRA Lifetime Memberships $300
Three possible ways to qualify:
1. Retired Veteran
2. Disabled Veteran
3. Be referred by a current lifetime member.
From now through January 31, 2010, NRA Life Members can sign up "family members and relatives" for Life Membership for $300 each.
If you cannot get a current lifetime member to sponsor you, the cost to upgrade right now is $500. (a great savings from the regular $1000 price).
Here's how:
Call the NRA at 1-800-672-3888
Press 3 for the lifetime dept.
Tell them a relative suggested you upgrade to a lifetime membership for $300.
Give them the referring lifetime member's NRA #, give them your NRA info, give them your credit card info.
Quick and easy!
