I'm looking for a spare factory barrel for my 590A1, to send out to have forcing cone work done as well as threaded for choke tubes. I have the longer barrel with the 8-round tube, and a regular bead sight (no rifle sights).

Mossberg themselves don't seem to carry one on their website (or indeed any 590 barrels) and I haven't found it elsewhere either.

Any help appreciated.

I'm not very knowledgeable with this so take it for what it's worth.

My experience with Mossbergs website is that if it's not there, call them.

It seems that from the others posts I've read, you'll be able to buy a new 500 with the barrel you want by the time you source a new 590 barrel and have it modified. (I say that with having very little knowledge of the forcing cone work and cost and reasoning)

Mossberg will sell you just the barrel if you call their customer service number and ask. They just don't put items like that on the website since so few people would need one.

590A1 barrel sales are handled through Mossberg's Law Enforcement/ Military sales division.
They'lll be more than happy to sell you a spare barrel direct.

I have been reading about this lately, thinking of fitting an 835 barrel to my 18.5 barreled 590A1. Or any other barrel that will fit. I'm wanting a upland/home defense 590.
I don;t believe any barrel will fit your longer mag tube except your 20" 590 barrel. I could be wrong. You will need a shorter 5 round mag tube as well as a barrel. Unless of course you are talking of buying a replacement 20 cylinder bore barrel.

835 barrel won't fit on a 590A1
Not even the six shot tube variety.
The barrel tang is longer on an 835 than a 590A1
At least they are compared to my my 2 3/4" chambered MilsGun and I believe Mossberg uses the same barrel but chambered 3" for the 590A1

I'm pretty sure the 835 barrels will fit on the 590A1 with the short mag tube. Do a google search and there are lots of threads discussing it. One thing to remember is that the 835 barrels are back bored so don't shot slugs through them.

I actually tried a couple 835 barrels on my MilsGun.
They didn't fit.
I would call and ask Mossberg direct before ordering one or if you're inclined to go to your friendly local gun shop, they just might let you try a couple for fitting like mine did.

Onmilo could you explain further what your gun is? I don;t know what you mean when you say milsgun. Unless you mean Mil-Spec gun. I'm not sure what model you have, 500, 590A1, or what? Like you noted, the true mil-spec models are chambered in 3" and have a heavy walled barrel.

The MILS name has been used for Mossbergs using the 500 mag tube screw and also the 590 cap version.

As I said before a quick search will lead to dozens of threads saying the 835 barrels will fit on the short mag tube 590A1 and visa versa.
Let's say the 3.5" chambered 835 barrel will fit a 3" chambered 590A1 receiver (Call Mossberg)
You still won't be able to shoot 3.5" Magnum shells as they will hang up in the shorter 590 ejection port if they even fully extract at all.(Call Mossberg)
The 835 barrel WILL NOT FIT 500/590 MILSGUN originally fitted with a 2 3/4" chambered MIl-Spec Barrel utilizing the separate screw on magazine cap.(Call Mossberg)

Thanks for the short tutorial and link, I had never heard of the MILS designation before. So would that be a pre-590 of sorts? If it is a 500 does it indeed have the plastic trigger group or the aluminum one? Mine is a 18.5" heavy wall barrel cylinder bore, 3" chamber 5+1 with the 3 dot rifle sights. I've been thinking of adding a sporting barrel if something exists that will drop on. I don;t intend to shoot 3.5" shells. My other 2 12GA guns are older, a Win M12 and Stevens SxS. I would like a modern, 3" capable, steel shot approved barrel with bead and interchangeable chokes . I have read online of the 835 barrel fitting the newer 590A1 with heavy barrel. Does something like this exist?

Back bored is not a problem with slugs, it's the over size bore that allows the slug move side to side that reduces accuracy, they are still safe to use with slugs.

The Mil-Gun variations all come with metal trigger assemblies, metal safeties too.
You keep asking if an 835 will fit, I keep telling you to call Mossberg So here's the link to Mossberg contact numbers.
I suggest calling the Law Enforcement Division. HTH

I have a 500 Tactical - 6 Shot 1 in the chamber 5 in the mag tube.screw on cap
#54125

Just last week I ordered and installed a 835 barrel on it.Fits fine.Using 3 1/2 shells won't work in the 500 action. But I was aware of that beforehand.

If you call mossberg and ask them like I did. They will say not to do it.That it won't work. But it does. There are others that have done this with success so I figured I would give it a try.But you need the 5 shot mag tube for this to work

Rudy, thanks for the update. I'm just trying to ask if something like that would work. I don;t need the number for OF Mossberg LE division. I know they would tell me it won;t work, not to do it. But it looks like I will. I'll think about it.
