Hi Folks,

not sure if I shouldn't be posting this in the 'buy and sell' area, but I figure the moderators will move it if I goofed. Anyway I sometimes get an opportunity to buy 'display' models of knives. Recently I bought the display model of a large Gerber folding knife that didn't have a belt sheath with it. They were changing the display and cut me a deal on the knife. Anyway, does anybody know of a place that sells various sized sheathes (a la leatherman sheaths, that sort of thing)? don't have to be leather, just reasonably durable.

thanks,

Hey ahadams, you got the right area...you might try http://www.texasknife.com/store/s-pages/TKS_MainframeStore.htm?TKS_BladesDendritic1.htm~smain , they have a cool site for "do it your self" knives, and have sections for sheaths and sheath material. I bought some 6 mil. hard plastic like material there that can be molded with a heat gun...got some snaps with it, they also have leather and other neat stuff. Watch out though if ya like knives, they have some perdy blanks. :what:

thanks Bruz! oh man that "Gold Rush Bowie" looks like it has my name on it - and I don't know diddly squat about knife making - now what do I do??!

okay, now I've heard that it's much better to collect pistols and knives than long guns and swords, since pistols and knives are easier to sneak into the house, and my wife has finally seen the light (er, more or less) on at least collecting folding knives (she saw some Case folders that she thought were 'beeyootiful' - and she was right) but how do I convince her that I, who have never even been vaguely inclined toward doing such a thing (my masters is in education, and my current studies are in theology) need to start putting knives together? this looks like it could become a serious addiction, er, uh, true hobby, yeah, that's what I meant - a true hobby!

need to start putting knives together?

These blades look almost as good not build out so not finishing, or even starting the project does not matter! In another thread it is posted how to tie the parachute cord handles...think I'll start with that. :uhoh:

The argument on putting knives together is that you get a hobby that costs less than buying finished knives, knives that look just the way you (and she) wants them to look, time at home making the knives instead of out doing something else, produces knives that may be sold, and could result in you developing into a knifemaker that sells their own knives for $$$.

If you want to step onto the slippery slope take a look at http://knifekits.com/, and http://kovalknives.com/home.htm

BTW, I've got nylon sheaths lying around that cost me next to nothing. If you want one let me know what size you need and I can mail it to you.
