Had a few minutes and stopped by the local pawn shop that carries a great deal of shotguns. Some are junk and others are overpriced. You folks know what I mean. I scanned the rack to see if there had been anything new added since being there a couple months ago. A cute little SxS caught my eye. It was 12 ga Spartan (Baikal) SPR 220 It was not new of course but didn't have a scratch on it. The barrels were clean in and out, The lockup was a little stiff like I have seen on other Spartan guns, and it had $349 on the tag.

I don't know that I NEED the gun, but somehow it just called to me as something I would LIKE to have. The LOP would be about right if I added a recoil pad to it.

What's the prices on the Spartan 220 these days? I am familiar with the Spartan line and their origin etc. I just have not looked at the SPR220's.

edit...for info...this model was without the exposed hammers

Dick's had them for $299 new the last time I checked. I'm sure they are in that same price range now. A fair price for the gun you saw would be in the $225-250 range.

Since pawn shops always double their money, you should easily haggle them down to this price range. You save some coin, they make some. I'd walk before I'd go over $250 including sales tax.

SP220 Price

Sure wish we had a dick's around here.Bought my Spartan 28+410 for $550 new.Like them both, esp the 28.At the club all members said it was a good deal.I'd buy it for that price!Be wary though-they're stiff opening for quite a while. Also,Remington's not messing with vthe Baikal anymore,or so I heard.

Good price-buy it

I did some research on the Baikal shotguns and they are not coming in to any importer as of last week. October 7, 2009. I have one in 12 ga and like it a great deal. Mine has choke tubes and I use it for home defense and for quail and Dove hunting on my farm. I am looking for a 20 ga now and would gladly pay that price for one. They are well made and the price is most reasonable.

Per an e-mail I received from EAA/USSG who was the last importer of Baikal shotguns,
they're no longer handling the Baikal line. Hopefully, someone will pick it up again and
make them available.

My 20 gauge set me back $299. I've seen 'em as high as $350 around here, so I figured $299 was a fair deal. I sure like the gun. Yeah, I put a recoil pad on it to lengthen the pull and it also helps the drop of the stock. It fits well, not quite perfect, but almost. It shoots sweet. :D It's a quick little gun on upland birds.
