Hey y'all, I picked up an old rolling block today and need help identifying it. The rifle is cosmetically pretty worn and not the prettiest, but the bore is nice and shiny so I want to shoot it. It has only 2 barrel bands and they are spring captive. There is a crown proof with "RV" below it, and both of the barrel bands have a crown as well. The barrel is 30" from the breech to muzzle, and the bore slugged right at .446. It has a bayonet lug as well. Anyone have any idea which military would've used this?

Probably going to need a general photo.

If you can't take one yourself - try looking for something similar on the internet and posting it for reference.

Here are a few pictures. I decided to fire form a piece of 45-70 brass in it to see if that would help me at all. I used a 44 sizer to reduce the case mouth for it to fit. While the cartridge base and length aren't the same, I did get a very nice shoulder and neck to form. The neck, shoulder, and length from base to shoulder all measured identical to .43 Spanish dimensions, but that doesn't explain the 30" barrel with 2 bands... I also checked the diameter of the base of the chamber and it matched .43 Spanish as well. Snapchat-1467319216.jpg Snapchat-882064331.jpg Snapchat-1132654932.jpg

I glanced at the pics before reading about your fire-forming. My gut reaction said Spanish or South American. South American Winchester '73s had a very similar treatment with the 30" barrel and full musket length stock with two barrel bands.

Aside from those insights, I am of no help. Neat looking rifle, albeit very well used/used as a door stop in a jungle hut.
