Looking to set aside some spare parts for a Colt M4 specifically.

Anyone got a a good recommendation for a spare parts kit or a list of suggested extra parts.

AK guys...please move along.

You won't need the little pins and springs if you don't take your rifle apart beyond field-strip.

If you like to tinker, you will lose the springs and bitty-parts 10x more than any will actually fail.
For tinkerers, add to the above list: detents - firing pin cotters.

I've got a spare bolt, charging handle, firing pins, cotter pins, gas rings, and several spare extractors and pins and springs for same. I also have a whole set of springs.

For regular scheduled maintenance, you should have....

1. Gas rings
2. Ejector springs and ejector
3. Extractor springs and inserts and extractor.
4. If running a standard trigger, disconnector and spring
5. Buffer springs
6. Cam pin
7. Firing pin retainer

For stuff that's good to have because it's going to need to be replaced eventually or may get lost.

1. Spare bolt (this would also cover spare rings, extractor and spring and ejector and spring)
2. Spring kit containing all pins and springs

I get all of my stuff from Bravo Company. It's good stuff.

I've had good luck with the small parts from Palmetto State Armory. They have good prices on parts kits and their stuff is of high quality.

1) Firing pin
2) Extractor and spring, gas rings (or substitute those for an entire bolt).

Bravo Company would be my brand of choice (if they have stuff in stock)

Darn, I forgot the firing pin.

My preferred method of carrying spares is in my Magpul grip with the bolt insert. I keep a spare bolt and firing pin. In the field, just swapping out the whole bolt is a lot easier than swapping parts.

Gas tube.

I had one get leaky and cause all sorts of nastiness with short stroking one time. Ever since then I keep a spare on hand.

Every time I accumulate spare parts for an AR, I end up building another rifle, then order in more spare parts. Viscous circle!

a second AR.

Seriously. If it is HD or 3 gun, if i am worried about spare parts, i keep a second AR handy.

So start buying spare parts. As the post above said. When you get enough parts, build a second. Grabbing a second AR is much faster then switching out parts.
