I've ordered several before but they were always listed in catalog in store. I stopped by a local walmart today to special order the "security" version of a Mavrick 88 and was told they could not order anything not in the catalog. There is not even a Mavrick section in the catalog (nor are they listed under Mossberg). Our locals all have 28" 20ga Mavricks on the shelfs.... I'm pretty I have read of others ordering the 28" 12ga version of that, etc. (The Famous $177 Moss500 clone). I was wondering if anyone has had success ordering guns not listed in the catalog?

I've found they have almost every gun the manufacturer makes in the catalog, you just have to know where to find it and what they call it. I know you checked the Mossberg section, but I once ordered a Stevens 200 and it was labeled as a Savage 200. Maybe try the Mossberg brand with the Maverick model number.

I'm sure they have it, employees are just too lazy to track it down. I checked the catalog myself and its not in the Mossberg section, no Mavericks are listed (although they sale the 28" 20ga in the stores here). I have done google searches and found others who have purchased the security models and the 12ga version of the 28". I get the same answer at every store though, it has to be in the catalog or we can't order it. Then I usually ask them how they can get 20ga 28" Mavericks that have sitting on the shelves that are not in the catalog, and they look at me like I'm crazy. I tracked done the UPC code 04953331060 by calling Maverick but need a Walmart stock number before they will call to order.

If you have one local, try Dick's. The prices on ordering are usually the same and their catalog is larger.

Walmart actually did away with their online catalog (I checked earlier today) some time within the last week. In any case the gun was not listed there previously, very few where the online list was smaller than the catalog, didn't even cover many guns on the shelfs of local stores.

I can't speak for Wal-mart, but when I worked for Dick's, the selection in our special order catalog was not, in any way, related to our in-store selection. We went through a third-party wholesaler for the special order stuff, so it was quite possible for us to have guns on the rack that weren't in the special order book.

Or do what my buddy just did and buy the Maverick 88 for $177, go to a local gun shop and buy a used Mossberg 500 18" barrel for $50 and have two guns in one. The barrel change requires no tools and takes less than a minute.

Well they actually don't have the 12ga at our local walmarts, all in are area carry the 20ga version and I only want 12ga ones, so I can't get it either, even though other walmarts stock them from reading on the internet. I like the 20" 8shot better than the 28" 6shot and it is $30 or so cheaper, so would rather just have it, the new barrell are closer to $100 also I think.

Only ordered one and they had it in stock but I wanted the wooden not the synthetic so they ordered no problems though.

I ran into a sporting goods dept manager today and they looked up UPCs in the handheld computer/labeler they were carring, they can get the 12ga 28" for $177. The Security 18.5" 6shot does not show up and the Security 20" 8shot does show up but is out of stock and $197. I was surprised it was that much, MSRP is $206 and the $177 walmart ones have a higher MSRP than the Security models. They can look up anything by UPC code on their handhelds if anyone is looking. I am just going to get the $177 in 12ga and buy a replacement barrel.

That's the best way to go. With a quick barrel swap you can go from a great sporting gun to a tactical/home defense gun. And you can find new Mossberg 500 18" barrels for around $100 and used ones for about $50. I'm a big fan of the Maverick since my buddy got one. My only pump is a Remington 870 and I'd say the Maverick has a better stock trigger. Have fun.

Thanks, I found a new 24" camo barrel for $49 on closeout, that I guess i could cut n' paint black. Centerfire also has the Norinco U87s (Remington 870 knockoff with improved sights) with 2 barrels included 18.5" and 28" for $229.
