Ok, I have got this 2 die Set from Lyman to reaload .223/5.56 and usually I dont do this since I can get Swiss issued GP90 at a very good price (35cent/round) ...

But I happend to have 200 HPBT bullets (75 ) here, and I wanted to realoed them to reload them to obtain a round similar to the mk262..

But I am having a problem.. my seating die seem to CRUSH the head of the bullet (the hollowpoint part), damaging the profile and obviously this could create a problem (accuracy) when shooting.

What am i missing here ? is my seating die innadecuate to reload HP bullets ?

Help will be much appreicated,

Patrick

Patrick,

Most rifle seating stems contact the bullet on the ogive, so if there is too much resistance when seating, it will compress a hollowpoint bullet.

Try chamfering the case mouth a little. That should be enough to make the bullet seat with less pressure. I suspect that the sharp edge of the case mouth is causing too much friction on the bearing surface of the bullet when it's being seated. Also, if you're crimping these rounds, do it in separate steps. Seat the bullet first, then go back and crimp the round.

Hope this helps.
