I currently carry a S&W 340 SS which holds 5 rounds.

Which would make for a better reloading method:

Speed loader

or

Speed Strip

Now the real important thing is WHY??????

My vote is for strips. With some practice, you can get really fast with the strips. I use 6 round strips per Mas Ayoob's suggestion, and do two then skip a spot and then do another three.

I spent about a week practicing while I watched tv.

Forgot to mention that I had problems with the HKS round speed loaders "dumping" in my pocket. I have had two different ones that accidentally open with a slight twist of the release mechanism. Just my personal preference.

Speed strips are more concealable and I do use them. But when my primary was a wheelgun I bought the Desantis Second Six. The speed loader rides on the belt, three cartridges on front, 3 on back. They're quick and secure. And the reload times easily beat the speed strips.

I own both, but lately I carry a Safariland speedloader, since I realized that with all the crap I normally carry in my pants pocket the lump isn't anything obvious. The Speed Strips are a good invention, though -- way better than digging for loose rounds, and super easy to conceal. The coin/watch pocket of a pair of jeans is perfect.

Some people claim they can do a Speed Strip reload in 5 seconds. I'm more like 15. With a speedloader I'm between 4 and 60 seconds depending on if I fumble or if the gun's real dirty or if I didn't lock the rounds in right and I drop them loose on the ground.

+1 on what jfh said. I prefer carrying a bug for good measure. Maybe I am in a league of my own, but if I do ever have to use a gun to protect myself, I am going to shoot and scoot. I would hope that I would be able to shoot and then find cover, and reload with the slower, yet more easily concealable speed strips.

Speed loaders, unless carried on a service belt, are too bulky for me.

Both, or just a speed strip. Depends on where I'm going. I usually keep the speed loader in the car, dropping it in my jacket pocket when I get out. I may hang up the jacket at times but the strip stays in pocket full time.

BUG

I like the thought of a BUG. Nothing is as fast as pulling out another aready loaded gun. Thanks!!!!!!

It's weird. I like speed-loaders.

But the Bianchi speed strips have this weird cult following.

I really don't know why. I have to imagine they're slower to use than a speed-loader.

Speed strips in Florida, only because they can be carried in the pocket of your shorts or jeans.

No jacket or other bulky clothing to hide a speedloader.

Speed-Loader = Way Faster.
Speed-Loader = Way Bulkier. Two of them bulge a pocket about as much as another gun.

Speed-Strips = Way Slower.
Speed-Strips = Very Concealable. Two or three in a pocket look like typical pocket crap everyone carries around.

If you are going to a gun-fight, take the Speed-Loaders.
If you are just going about your business, take the Speed-Strips.

I didn't vote. The poll needs another question.
"Both, depending on the circumstances."

Speed strips are way slower than a speed loader. I own both.

Speed strips go in pants pockets; Speed loaders go in coat pockets.

For me, it's about the fine motor skill operations.
In the heat of the moment, one fine motor skill operation is needed to make a speed loader happen.
In a 5 shooter, you have five, or maybe 3, fine motor skill operations to perform.

All while you're moving off the x, looking for cover, etc.

For me, it's safariland speedloaders.

I currently carry a S&W 340 SS which holds 5 rounds.
I have a S&W 360 which is essentially the same gun with a hammer and I find its very fast and easy to load with a speedloader. All I do is get the 5 rounds started at the top of the cylinder, release the shells from the speedloader and then turn the cylinder until the shells drop in.

OK, I have to admit it...

I have never actaully seen a speed strip in person. I'd love to see a little FAQ about how one actually goes about using them.

I have a revolver, and have 4 speedloaders in 2 double pouches (molded specifically for them.. they do NOT conceal). But I don't use my revolver for a carry weapon (got the loaders from the previous owner) and I never really gave it much thought.

Anybody have a usefull link?

If you are going to a gun-fight, take the Speed-Loaders.
If you are just going about your business, take the Speed-Strips.

If you're actually going to a gunfight...... take a rifle....... and a few friends......

Or call ahead and see if you can cancel your appointment.......

:)

Generally for me the strips are much faster...because I have them with me. I like loaders, but they don't carry as easliy , even with a split 6.
