Spitzer bullet on top of .30 Carbine?

Right now this is a thought experiment. If I wanted to push a .30 Carbine round fired from a Blackhawk out to 100 yards for maximum accuracy, would I be better off using a Spitzer bullet:

Possibly:
Sierra MatchKing Bullets .308 Diameter (30 Caliber/7.62mm) 125 Grain Boat Tail Hollow Point

Or maybe:
Barnes TTSX Bullets 0.308 (30 Caliber, 7.62mm) 110 Grain Polymer Tipped

Would that improve my odds for accuracy?

Will the Spitzer loaded round fit in the cylinder? I would think the OAL would be too long. It would work great in a Contender barrel.

At 100yds, a pointed bullet will hold no advantage.
The National record in the CMP Carbine competition is held with a Criterion barrel, H110 @14.5gr, OFB GI brass, match prepped, CCI Br2 primer, and the Sierra 110gr RN soft point.

this is where I’d start…
The quality of the Sierra bullet is unquestioned.

My .30Carbine Blackhawk is partial to the Speer 110gr JHP Varminter.
My 2 M1 Carbines actually shoot better with a cast 93gr Powder coated Lee RN @0.311” over 11.5gr of #2400, but are only running ~1,700fps from a rifle.

Don't try to make the 30 carbine into something it was never designed for.

As others have said, a Spitzer bullet offers no advantages at 100 yds.

I had my doubts that within 100 yards a Spitzer bullet would add much but I didn’t want to bias the responses by expressing my doubts.

Tho I will say I’ve noticed an increase in bullet weights for those sold as 30 Carbine bullets, 115 gr, 120 gr, and 125 gr. But I will say there are published loads for those weights.

Buffalo Bore sells a 125 gr 30 Carbine load. I’ve tried it in my Blackhawk and it works as advertised. No problems at all.

As noted, a pointy spitzer bullet won’t fit in the chamber. The end of the bullet will poke out the end of the cylinder. If you were using a rimmed case, you could shorten the case and reduce your OAL. But that won’t work, where the .30 Carbine headspaces off the case mouth.

As for improved accuracy, I did a similar experiment where I was playing around with pointy bullets in a T/C Contender chambered in .32 H&R. I was specifically going to heavier than standard bullets for subsonic suppressed applications.

At the end of the day, I found that quality pointy bullets shot about as well as quality JHP pistol bullets. And surplus rifle bullets, while fun plinkers, did not keep up. Which probably does not surprise anyone.

I would expect similar results from the .30 Carbine. I could always be wrong, though.

I suspected it was a dead end but glad to have the confirmation!
