Hi!

I did a ladder test yesterday with (new to me) Alliant Sport Pistol and Barnes 9mm 115gr bullets. I did the test with a Tanfoglio Witness Match if that matters...

My best group (25-yards, sandbag rest) was at 3.8 grains, which was the minimum that I tested. I'd like to try lighter loads to see if the groups get even smaller.

Have any of you gone lighter than this? If so, do you mind sharing your data and/or experience?

Thanks~!~

I didn't find data for a Barnes 115 gr TAC-XP with Sport Pistol, but on the Alliant site or the Barnes site but there are Alliant loads using Sport Pistol for other types, FMJ and JHP bullets. But I might decrease loads perhaps .4-.5 gr until I saw erraric burn/ignition or loss of gun function. From what I saw, 3.8 gr. is the min or below minimum and I doubt if accracy would improve when going lower... My opinion only as I''ve not tried Barns bullets with Sport Pistol powder...

I don’t have any load data for SP and 115’s, just interested in the thread.
I’ve developed loads that went below published min, but it had a shorter COL than published, and I had a chrono to assist. Good luck.

Sport pistol data runs close to tite group. When i 1st started to use it. I worked with T.G data for loads that were not published for Sport pistol. As always start at beginning loads and work up. I bought Speers latest manual. It has data for S.P. And it co-sided with what i was working with.

These are all Max Load, which places the suggested Starting Load around ~4.2gr. But you want to go lower than 3.8gr.

I believe you'd be in trouble with the recoil springs in your gun before anything else. As it is now, at 3.8gr the cartridge cases must be rolling down your arm.

I've gone down to 3.5 SP with fps of 1040 using Hitek coated 125 grain with excellent accuracy with a Glock 17L,
