Now that the wife and I have started our rifle shooting pursuits, I find that my memory has faded with the years :D Geee, how could I forget a spotting scope? Well, I lost a couple of points with the better half. Now that I've seen the light (or not, as the case may be) how about some recommendations for a good, tripod mounted variable power spotting scope. Right now, the maximum distance will be 100 yards. I'd like to be able to see a "standard" centerfile rifle 100 yard target well enough to see holes without strain.

So, what power (zoom?), objective size, etc. Any recommendations greatfully appreciated. Thanks in advance.

W1mnk;

If you do a search, there is a recent thread covering just this. My opinion is that if it's just to be a range scope, the cheap Tasco/Simmons/Winchester will do just fine. The glass is second rate, maybe even 3rd rate, but you will be able to see your holes at 100 yards without problem, even .22 holes. About $125.00 will cover it & your good to go. These are NOT field, game sighting, scopes, but you're not going to do that, right?
