I am thinking about geting the xd for edc. I liked the way it felt in my hand, ect. Was looking at the 40 sub compact.

Was just searching online, and read that right now springfield is giving 3 free mags and a mag pouch with the purhase of a xdm 40 compact.

Now, normally. It would he worh the extra $100 to me. But the extra mags and poumch might make it worth it.
Then i readbits not as good for edc because its a little biger then the xd sub comp. And like 1/2 thicker. And the "upgrades" seem minor. Such as interchanching backstraps, better grip, ect. Stuff that would be nice, but not needed. Over all ivwas sold on the xdm givin the extra mags, but now im not so sure if its not as good for edc.

What are yalls thoughts?

Fwiw, i was going to get a mosin nagant too, been wanting one for a while. I can pull off both guns with the xd, but not the xdm.

I believe Springfield is offering the free stuff on all XDs and XDMs. That aside, I traded my XD for my XDm and haven't looked back. My XDm is more accurate, looks better and feels better. Whether it's me or the gun is unimportant to me, those are just my impressions. I can shoot a sub 1" group at 10 yards off hand all day with my XDm40, and I'll take that accuracy any day. I would go ahead and look for one with factory night sights though.

To be clear, I didn't dislike my XD, I just like my XDm better. I'm sure you'll be happy with either for EDC.

The mag deal is indead for both. I have an XDm 4.5" in 9mm that i use for USPSA limited and a XD 4" in 9mm that i carry. The XD grip is a little shorter than the XDm and of course holds a few less rounds. I like them both and can honestly say that for carry you will not notice much differance in the two.

I purchased the XD9 and really enjoy the feel and fit. Top notch for the price IMHO. I have held (but never fired) the XDM and it seems to be the "more polished" of the two and I would recommend checking both out before deciding. Possibly see if a range nearby will let you rent them (they are common enough) or worst case hold both and go from there.

i decided i wanted a 45.

being that the xdm doesnt have a compact 45, and im not ready to carry the larger yet, i chose the xd in .45acp compact.

already eye balling the 9mm compact xdm though. maybe for christmas. lol

I was really hoping that their new XDm announcement would be a compact .45 instead of the 5.25" XDm 9mm competition gun.

I own three. A XD45 compact, an XD9subcompact, and a XDm 3.8 compact 40. If you lay them one atop the other, the only noticable difference is the length.

I've carried the 45 concealed with no trouble at all. I use a Galco Summer comfort IWB. They're all great guns.:)

Well you already got your answer on the magazine offer for both models.

Fer myself, I went from an XDSC40 to their 9mm-the recoil didn't bother me, but the 40 did have a bit of muzzle flip.
I've tended to move down in caliber over the years as SD ammo has vastly improved. I would have originally bought a 9mm, but way back when I bought mine (pre-Melonite) the 9 held only 1 more round than the 40. When they redesigned the 9mm magazines to up the capacity, I swapped to the 9.

My main CCW is the XDSC9-I've handled the XDMs, but wasn't impressed as I don't need the extra backstraps, kinda like the looks of the older models (subjective), prefer the rear sight on the old models (for one-handed operation) and I think the match grade barrel is just marketing-I don't know how much more accurate it could be than the XDSC models (which are darn accurate).

I did have to add a Pearce Grip Extender, as I hate danglin' pinkies.

If the free magazine offer applies to the Essentials package models (although I don't know if they have that package in sub-compacts), you might consider it?
I don't care for all the 'extras' with the XDs-I'd rather have a MagLULA, and my own choice in holsters for CC.

If you're interested in night sights, might consider buying one with 'em already installed? My 9 had 'em-sent my slide and sights for my old 40 to XD-HS2000.com since XD sights can be a real bear to remove.
I sent only the slide in a USPS priority mail box-install plus shipping (insured) both ways was under $30-checked the slide-not a mark on it from the install!

BTW-what's the going price? In my neck o' the woods, the XDSC is $475-with the Trijicons it's 'bout $525.

You can't go wrong with either - I have 2 4" XD45's that I love and they're acuurate as can be. I like the XDm in .45 and it might be my next gun.

In my situation the XD was the right choice. I wanted a full sized .45acp. My XD45 Tactical is my most trusted gun. It sits in my nightstand loaded with 13 Gold Dot 230s. It has a 5 inch barrel and is as accurate as the XDm 45 IMHO. The XD's grip felt good to me, so I didn't need the adjustable back straps that the XDm offers.

In your case, I am not sure. I think the match barrel thing is a marketing ploy. It comes down to feel. Does the XD fit your hand well? If so, I don't think the XDm is worth the extra $100-$200.

The XDM is the better of the two but the XD service models are nothing to laugh at, they'll do the same job with amazing reliability but the real difference is in size and accuracy. IMO the XDM has better ergonomics and accuracy than the XD but is alot larger, if the goal is to find a carry weapon I'd go with the XD but if the goal is a range/target gun the XDM is the way to go.

I own an XDM in .45 I believe the main difference is a shorter trigger reset and a better barrel in the XDm. The three sized back strap is great for me but it probable is not a necessity for most people. Overall this is one great gun.

I owned an XDm 40 for about 1000 rounds and sold it. I shot it along side a buddy's XD and here's what I noticed:

  • XDM's match grade barrel: Huh? I was just as accurate with the XD. Maybe in a bench rest or resting on sandbags it would be worth it, but otherwise...not for me. But it did have "Match Grade" stamped on it so you can show that to your buddies.
  • XDM's better gripping service: Yep, it is better It is much better. It is tons better. It is what all XD's should come with.
  • XDM gear: Junk. Fine for the range but not much else. Definietely not good for ccw. $20 fobus stuff that I could live without. Used it once, after that it just sat in the case. The loader is nice, but again...$20 for a nicer one elsewhere. If you want to see some good, quality free gear...check out Smith and wesson's range pack with their m&p pistol. Nice holster/mag holder (blade tech) and a real, quality mag loader (uplula). Don't even factor in that "free gear" as it isn't a deal breaker or maker IMHO. For the price of 1 or 2 boxes of ammo, you can get a holster that is much, much better.
  • XDM's interchangeable backstraps: Made no difference to me no matter which one I used. Tried each one for 150 rounds back to back...nada, zilch...no difference for me. YMMV
  • XDM's trigger: You can tell a difference when you are fondling the two back to back and dry firing. Run the gun hard and run some drills and there is very little practical difference.
  • Neither is something that I would carry concealed. I would only carry the sub compact. But that is just me. Could you carry the regular size model concealed? With a good belt and a good holster you can carry anything if you adjust your clothes. I wear my shirts a little too tight to carry anything that big, though. By comparison, a glock 19 is much easier to carry concealed for me.
  • Both the XD and the XDM were great guns when I tried them. You'll get a quality firearm no matter which one you get.
That's my honest, unadulterated, non-fanboy opinion. Take it for what it's worth. :)

Could not have said it better. The only use for the gear is if you want a test piece of material to stipple before you do your gun.

The gear promo is really awesome. I did it for mine back in Dec 2010 and having 5 mags is really nice and I didn't have to drop $100 which honestly I just spent on a new holster for it.

The xdm is Such a sweet pistol. Out of all the guns I've owned, sold, or traded , the xdm is the only one I regret letting go of. I had the 45 acp and it was as accurate of a pistol as I've ever shot. Felt great in the hand was the best looking polymer framed gun I've ever owned.
The xd 40 just felt and shot like my g27. Between the two series, without hesitation I'd go with the xdm.
