I acquired an 1873 trapdoor recently and have completely disassembled it down to every last screw and spring. It is all original and the stock cartouche and markings are all intact. I have attached some of the markings which i don't understand. The underside of the barrel is marked P~12 with a star next to each of these characters. I understand the P~12, but not the stars. The topside of the barrel is marked VP (eagle) P and there is an s on one side and an index line on the other where the receiver meets the barrel.
