I am buying a Springfield Garrison 9mm pistol and apparently Springfield is a bunch of cheapskates and only include ONE magazine.

So I need to buy some spares. I was wondering if anyone has any input on which magazines to use with these pistols.

I have had great luck with Mec Gar magazines and they seem to be available at good prices.

Thanks.

Yeah, SA cheaps out and ships with one mag for their Ronin, too. :(

I like Mec Gar magazines for my CZ pistols, those have been great. I didn’t know if any of my 1911 magazines were Mec Gar, so I ran to the garage and took out the magazine bins to check. I didn’t see a Mec Gar brand on one, most of my .45 and 9mm 1911 magazines are Kimbers that I got from GunMagWarehouse.com . These have been 100pct reliable for me so far, and they aren’t crazy expensive, either.

Check out GMW, they sell several brands and are great to deal with.

Stay safe.

I have always had great reliability using factory 9mm. Colt along with some Mec-Gar mags. You might also want to look at Metalform and Checkmate magazines.

CZ supplied 2 cheap Metalform mags with my DW 9mm Guardian, which would not lock back the slide,,the tolerances were way off. I replaced them with Tripp,McCormic and Mec Gar mags, which all function great. What surprised me was how well the Mec-Gar's performed and what a well made product it was for half the price of the others.I ordered another 2 from GMW.

I bought MecGar magazines to go with my Garrison, it runs just fine with them. Considering MecGar makes the OEM magazines for a slew of manufacturers, I'll be surprised when I get one that doesn't work.

While they may be fine mags, nearly no 1911's use Mec-Gar mags as OEM.

I'm not saying they are better or worse, but CheckMate is the most common OEM 1911 mag.

Tripp Cobra Mags feed well but are so low cut in front that they are subject to stripping out the top cartridge coming out of a tight magazine carrier or a tac load in the gun. I use them for IDPA and USPSA "load and make ready" and reload with something else.

I have only one each Wilson and current production McCormick and a couple of MecGars, they are all doing fine.

I have some of the first production run of Metalform 10x9mm that have been extensively rebuilt. Don't know about the current stuff.

My many treasured discontinued McCormick XPs are showing their age, I had one with splayed lips that I straightened and will be gauging another to see if I can tell what gave me a malfunction last night.

All that said, life will be simpler if you are content with 9 rounds in the gun. The 1950 design seems to work ok but I prefer the Metalform/Springfield/Leatham "front ramp" type.

I believe the C or M on the upper right of the base plate of Colt 9mm magazines indicate they were made by Checkmate or Metalform.

Of the 9mm 1911 mags I have, the SA is the worst. I have 2 2 Sig 9 round (no name on them, purchased fron Sig) mags and 2 Wilson 10 round mags that work great in my Garrison.
