I just bought a new Springfield Loaded SS 1911 A1, PX9151L. So far, it's been excellent. Anyone know for sure who makes the 7 rd. magazines supplied with the gun? I believe they're metalforms...sure look like it, but my dealer said they were McCormick's.

The Springfield factory magazines are made by Metalform. I still have the two that came with my Stainless Loaded, and they've been working 100% so far.

Metalforms come in many different flavors. They have the cheap ones, which are the ones that come with the Springfields. And then they have the more expensive ones that are about $21/mag. The more expensive ones have functioned fine in my experience; probably do to the different follow design. The other ones are okay but they're not something I would spend money on. I would literally rather have one good Metalform than three of the lower end ones.

I bought 10 of them with my loaded coupon. They are great for the range and I have found nothing wrong with them other than not being able to disassemble them.

I have Wilson 47Ds for defense however.

Boats - it is easy to take them apart. You can use regular flat screwdriver to tilt the follower a bit and remove it from the mag. The follower comes out forward, just like the rounds... It is easy to put them back as well.

To be honest I really haven't tried too hard. I guess I am just used to the standard design where you compress and trap the mag spring and the follower will just fall out. Thanks for the tip. I learn something new everyday here.

McCormicks...

...are Metalforms too...as are any OEM Colt magazines with an
"M" on the baseplate. The high-end Metalforms are stainless,
with round followers, which have had some glowing reports for
reliability across the board. I plan on ordering a few and will
post my results.

Calling Metalform direct will eliminate the middle man and net you
a huge price break per unit when you order 10 or more....
about half the price per magazine when ordering less than 10.

Look them up online for their options and pricing. They even
produce magazines for the old Colt Woodsman. Wolff +5%
springs available in any magazine or as a component for a nominal
extra cost.

Be of good cheer and mindful of your muzzle...
