I just had a chance to shoot my friend's Springfield Armory Loaded M1A Rifle, with a black fiberglass stock and a stainless steel barrel. All I can say this is the most accurate non-match rifle I think I have ever shot.
I'm not a particularly good rifle shot, but I put 3 of my first 5 shots in the X ring. That was at 100 yards from a sitting position using surplus 7.62 NATO 1980's vintage ammo. I had my most accurate .30 cal rifle with me, a Remington 700 BBL Varmint Special in .308 with a heavy barrel. Even though that is my rifle, I could not equal the groups I got with my friend's M1A. The gong at 200 yards I could hit 2 out of 3 times.
The M1A was not a cheap rifle - I know my friend paid at least $1,700 for his. But, I was very impressed by it. We experienced no malfunctions with it whatsoever. Also, he dropped the gun on his scope transporting it to the range. He was afraid the gun had lost its zero or worst, but it was fine.
Anyone want to donate $1,700 to me?
