Tell me about them, how do they shoot?, what are they worth?, does SF stand by their warrenty?

My understanding is that Springfield no longer warranties them and when they did, several years ago, they generally offered discounts on the M1A since they do not have any parts for the SAR8.

Prices vary with the Greece ones being worth the most, the stamped steel non-Greece ones less than that, and then the ones with the aluminum receivers being the least desireable and cheapest. As for current price, your guess is as good as anyone's.

I have an aluminum receiver SAR8 and have no problems doing head shots all day long at 100 yards with a B-27 target using iron sights. The gun destroys brass by denting the heck out of the case upon ejection, though.

There are a couple different versions of the SAR 8.

There is the SAR 3 and later 8 that was made by Hellenic Arms in Greece. These are universally considered great. They were made under license on HK tooling and were imported new and complete.

Much later came another SAR 8 that was little more than a G3 parts kit built on an aluminium reciever made by Federal Arms. These are universally considered junk.

KramerKrazy, I don't know whether it will help you or not, but I have found that the HK port buffer with the rubber bumper when installed correctly will prevent the battering that brass fired in your rifle takes.

It may not work on the cast receivers, I don't know, but it sure has made my life much mo bettah!

IIRC, I also heard that the receivers are known to stretch with a higher round count

Thanks! I'll have to look into this. I have resorted to only firing non-reloadable cased ammo in this gun and save the good brass for the bolt-action.
