You can get any length free float tube or rail system you want, just as long as your gas block isn't up too high to fit it on. If it is, then you need to either get whatever length your gas block allows, or replace it with a low profile gas block.

I find nothing 'better made' about the Armalite AR10 when compared to the DPMS L308 AP4.

I have my Garand for it's cool factor and historical significance. I'll be getting the DPMS for it's accuracy, it's versatility and overall strong build for a great price.

I would get the DPMS tube but if you want rails get a Troy or Daniel Defense but be ready to spend about 400 bucks.

Forged receivers (vs. DPMS extruded upper and CNC milled lower).

Chrome-lined triple-lapped barrel vs. non-chrome basic barrel.

Nicer trigger, nicer overall parts kit.

Better fit and finish.

All of this based on a DPMS LR-308 that I bought new a couple months, an Armalite AR-15 I own, and various AR-10s I've looked at in funstores.

In case it's not obvious, I decided that saving 30% of the cost was sufficient reason to go with DPMS. I just believe that if you're willing to pay more, the Armalite is in fact nicer.

I'll concede the better barrel, but fit and finish? The Armalite shakes and rattles like an empty coke can full of loose rocks. At least the five I've seen in stores and at shows NIB have all been that way.

It's also far too light in my opinion, but maybe that's just me. Better trigger? Maybe so.

While I can see spending some cash for the upgraded DPMS chrome barrel, I can't see spending $500 more for the Armalite over the DPMS.

My two cents for what its worth is to get the M1A.

IMHO its one of the best Military 7.62 rifles you can get, except for maybe a Fal or G3.

The non chrome barrel would be a deal breaker for me, I won't buy a rifle unless it has a chrome or better yet nitride barrel.
