Well I plan to purchase one of these neat little guns, I just purchased a Colt Combat Commander on Friday and I want to purchase one of these on Saturday, do any of you already own one and have any range reports or any problems with them?

And I am already a pretty good shooter and I doubt I will experience many problems.

I should add that I plan to use this as my CCW weapon.
 
I don't own one but my shooting buddy does. I've shot it quite a bit and it's pretty nice. It is very accurate and reliable. I do seem to recall him having to send it back to springfield once for something minor (i can't remember what was wrong) but he got it back and everything is fine. He also has used his for CCW.
 
Stay with Colt and get a Defender or New Agent . Defender has sights and Agent has gutter sight. Both of mine relieable The Springield compact was nothing but jam city. Owner blamed ammo but Colt fed it and so did another Springer no trouble.
 
I love my Springer 3.5" micro. I picked it up used and have not had problem in 1.5yrs of ownership. I carry it with Hornady XTP 230 JHP. the micro eats what I feed it and keeps asking for more. Accuracy is fine for 3.5" .45ACP and the trigger is a nice crisp single action ~5.0lbs. Every gun maker will have its lemons at some point in time, but my micro is definately not one of them. I've been very pleased with mine and will not trade it off for anything else.
 
I've seen a lot of posts that stated that no 3" 1911-style gun is or
ever will be reliable because of the shortened action. Of course I
don't remember seeing any of those opinions until after I had bought

Actually I've had my micro nearly two years, have about a thousand rounds
through it, and the only failures of any kind have been due to aftermarket
magazines. I've shot 230 gr. ball, 230 gr. Hydrashoks, Win SXTs, Fiocche
jhp's, and everything loads and shoots fine, using the mags that came with
it. Note I said "mags". It chaps my butt to see a gun company charge 800
to a grand for a pistol and give you only one magazine. And most of them
do it.

But I love my Springfield micro, carry it concealed every day, and have no
fear of it malfunctioning.

Bought the Loaded Lightweight Bi-tone Micro about a year or so after it came out ... liked it so much, picked up another about a year later.

My first Micro required about 200 rounds through it (well, maybe a little more) before it fed totally reliably. I experienced about a dozen FTFs and FTRBs in those first couple hundred rounds. Since then -- 100% reliable. My second Micro burped a few times in the first hundred rounds, since -- 100% reliable.

Be forewarned: you will experience a much snappier recoil than with a full-sized (5") 1911 and more than a Commander sized as well. You absolutely must maintain a locked wrist and firm grip with this platform.

Mine feed all the premium factory JHPs well. Keep the pistol well lubricated; do not shoot the shorties when they're dry.

The good news: one of my Micros is as accurate as any of my full size 1911s, at least out to 15 yards (easily keep it in the black at 25 yards, but the sight radius is shorter, and therefore, off-hand shooting at any appreciable distance is more difficult).

My first Micro had the actual Novak labeled Trijicons; the second appears to wear the SA Novak-licensed sights. The sights on both are dead on, though the Trijicons on my early Micro are dimming noticeably.

The trigger pull on my first Micro is excellent; #2 is okay, but was spoiled by the first.

Disassembly is a bit of a PITA, must use the little plastic clip on the guide rod.

Finish is holding up exceptionally well on both. I love the red Chip McCormick rosewood "thin grips" mine came with, though I think the new models have the SA cocobolos.
 
I have both the Colt defender and a Springfield Microcompact operator and I can tell you that they are basically clones of each other.The Springfield has a rail for the XML light and a bit better sights, but the basic pistols are very close to identical.The Springfield "feels" like it is sprung tighter than the Defender, but the Defender is broken in and the Springer is still unfired.The Defender is still my favorite, but that could change in the future.

SoCal, let us know how yours does out of the box if you do get it Saturday. Mine and a few others I have heard about were not good at the beginning. I couldn't even get through a magazine full of ball ammo. I tried several different types and brands of ammo, I couldn't get it to run on any of them. I tried different magazines, more oil, more break in, nothing worked and I was pretty POed. I made a call to springfield and sent it back. They were pretty busy at the time but told me they would take care of it as soon as possible. They kept it about three weeks. I called after they had it a couple of weeks and the lady I spoke with said they were working on it but it hadn't been tested yet. A few days later she called me and said it was fixed and being shipped back to me. I didn't really get my hopes up that it was fixed after some of the horror stories of other manufacturers customer service. But I have to give a lot of credit to springfields customer service as they were upfront, (about being very busy) didn't lie to me, and they did what they were supposed to do(fixed the gun). This thing has run everything I have fed it without a single hiccup, since being returned to me. The only thing I have done to it since, is change out the ambi safety for a standard type because it kept getting switched off as i carried during the day. I actually shoot the micro more accurate than any of my full size or commander length 45's. I think it may be that my old eyes focus on the shorter sight radius better than the longer one on the gov. length slide. A lot of people bash the little micro, and I would have been right there with them, if I hadn't have given Springfield a chance to fix it and make it right.

If you do go this route, stock up on 185gr or 200gr ammo and save your hand/wrist from some punishment.
 
Thanks for all the replies guys. I was thinking however (correct me if I am wrong) that perhaps I should get the stainless model versus the blued/parkerized model of the Colt because I plan for it to be a concealed carry pistol and it was mentioned to me by a friend that being stainless steel would be easier to keep clean and would resist rust much better any thoughts?
 
I have the mil-spec Micro

I have no problems with pow-r-ball in it. Would not run with regular Cor-Bon which is the round that I prefer. I have not tried shooting any other type of rounds because I just prefer Cor-Bon, but that's just me.

If you're gonna carry IWB in a hot (and/or humid) climate where you'll be sweating a lot ... SS is always a good option. But you will still have rust on any pistol and its parts, even SS, if not maintained. Blued/black finish guns, if wiped down at the end of each day, fieldstripped, cleaned and lubricated regularly, aren't normally gonna have much in the way of rust problems (although I have a friend who seems to sweat a lot, and for some reason, he gets rust on all his carry guns, even though he claims to take care of them religiously).
